Eating too much free food

does anybody worry about eating too much free food? I have this dilemma every time I do slimming world! Its because ive done calorie counting before & I just panic that im eating too many calories to lose weight.Ive chosen slimming world because its less restrictive & fiddly as calorie counting & have a large appetite but im still worried that im overeating does that make sense?

You need to get counting calories completely out of your mind and just follow the plan. Every diet works (if you stick to it!) on its own merits but once you start trying to 'combine' that's when they fail.
Count calories by all means OR follow SW........just don't try and do them together.

Have a mooch around here and see all the success stories of people that are on Slimming World.....trust the plan!!

And good luck!!!

Thankyou, ive been driving myself mad this morning worrying that I ate too much rice yest and its high in calories! You are right I need to decide one way or the other & stick to one but still not sure which one arrgghhh hate my brain sometimes!!

Tamcat I've been calorie counting for ages and am thinking of coming back to sw. I'm the same. I can't get calories out of my head. I was thinking about combining the two but I doubt it will work as I'll just use the non sw day as an excuse to binge x

oh Lisa im glad someone knows how I feel,Im really scared next week I will stay the same or only lose half a pound! I know a loss is a loss but I don't want jan to be wasted I need a good weight loss this month to keep me motivated for when it slows down.I was considering 3 days calorie counting 4 days sw but post above said combimin wont work??

I have to agree, stick to one diet or the other. If after a few weeks one diet doesn't work then try another. There's far too many successes out there. There is a plan for everyone but without giving every diet a fair crack of the whip how will we ever know if they really do work? I tried ww years ago and kept trying to under cut my points. If she said I should be having 23, I'd have 17. Then I moaned it didn't work... How could I possibly say that when I didn't even do it as its meant to be done. A lot of money was wasted doing this. I really hope you get to where you want to be but please give it a proper go. If sw doesn't work then you can say you've tried it and it wasn't for you. Then try something else. I wish you every success xxx

The stupid thing is I know it works as ive lost 5 stone on it before but that was before ee came on the scene & before I ever did calorie counting. My little one woke up nearly every hr lastnight & got up at 4am so think im a bit tired & over analysing it

Can someone remind me when you get to goal on sw how do you maintain weight?is it extra syns & healthy extras?

I can accept feeling guilty for having a blow out on the wrong things but feeling guilty for eating a free food has just fried my brain! losing weight so many times to put it all back on again just knocks your confidence I guess

Tamcat I know how you feel. Just got the sw magazine to look through. We can do this. Once the weight drops off it will feel like the plan is best

have you been seeing results with the calorie counting Lisa? are you bored of it or is it too restrictive? sorry for all the questions Im trying to decide between the 2 x

Well i have been doing it for over a year and lost 1 and a half stone.
I put on about a stone as i can't seem to keep to it
I feel i need to eat food that is good for me rather than what I fancy. X

Agree that you need to stick to one plan, they are all designed to work in different ways and was said there are plenty of success stories. Our brains can really mess us up, and it's easy to worry and over analyse things but I think you have to trust this will work, the free food wouldn't be there if you could overeat on it, just remember to eat until your full, not so stuffed you can't move! that would be overdoing it lol!

After years of doing very low cal diets I did a low-carb diet, and suddenly fat was my friend and I could eat loads, that really did fry my brain lol, but I trusted it and lost weight. So just try and relax, SW is a good diet and gives you a lot of freedom so it doesn't feel restrictive, I counted calories before Christmas, and it ends up being a pain, counting & weighing everything, which is why I'm giving SW a go.

All the best

I think I already know the answer to my own questions its just good to hear other peoples opinions.I don't go to group so cant ask the consultant.I can see how eating fat fried your brain it would me too.The thought of counting & weighing everything is putting me off as I need something sustainable long term.I think I will keep going with the sw another 2 weeks, hopefully my brain will give me a break & a few good weight losses with def spur me on

Tamkat, I'm the same ... after a lifetime of calorie counting I tend to just know calorie values for everyday foods, so I find myself keeping a (very rough) tally as the day goes on.

I follow SW but (as starchy carbs are a bit of a hot spot for me) I do weigh/measure healthy portions of rice, pasta and potatoes so that I know I'm not overeating on high calorie foods ... otherwise, like you, I find it plays on my mind and I dread WI (despite having good losses since starting lol). I'd rather weigh SOME portions and exercise common sense with proteins (portion size about the size of a pack of cards etc, etc) than have the 'washing machine mind' that happens when I don't :)

I know others who follow SW but also use Apps which monitor exercise and roughly count calories so that they are reassured that they aren't taking in more energy than they need. I certainly wouldn't advicate splitting days between SW and CC, but it is possible to (sort of) combine the two by following SW while being aware of calorie intake xx

thanks Mollymolly,if I have potato in general its just 1 jacket spud and that doesn't play on my mind so maybe if I portioned my rice accordingly & carried on the rest of sw as normal I would feel better.I really cant afford to fail this time so im getting all my anxieties/worries out in the open now & its def helping

just to make it clear im not looking for a quick fix ,I know it will take me the best part of this yr to get the weight off, mollymolly your weight loss is fantastic well done xx

Molly, could ypu possibly tell ne what pirtion size of rice/pasta you have? I always get confused with these as I'm not sure if it's dry or cooked weight.

I don't measure but I'm quite rigid about the 1/3 superfree rule and try not to eat when I'm full. I sometimes also try to make sure 1/3 of the plate is protein as well so the carbs are only 1/3.

Some people take photos of their plates, I think this helps with the balance.
