Tempted to weigh in at home from now on, my scales at home last week weighed me same as SW last week, this week I jumped on scale before weigh in and my scales said 5lb loss, got to SW weigh in and scales said 1.5lb off!!! Disheartening eh! I've been really really good too, what does everyone think?? Home or SW weigh in? X

Well, SW scales are going to be far more accurate then any scales at home,so I would continue going to SW because you will get a much more accurate picture of how you are doing there! The key word in your post is 'disheartening', which is exactly the reason why getting weighed at home is discouraged.

It's also discouraged because its free ;)

I guess it depends in whether you 're going to invest £1000 in a set of scales as accurate as the ones at SW or stick with normal at home ones.

I put my scales at 4 different places in my flat & weighed myself - 4 very different result! I chucked them away & went back to group

I weight at home but have done from the start, and I always do it in the same circumstances i.e. scales in the same place, no clothes on, exactly the same time each week etc. I have a pair of Salter digital body fat scale ones that tell you BMI, water make-up etc.

Yeah I did same time same place too, but I suppose you do question reliability of home scales! Il do my best again today and see what the result is next week and compare scales again. I know a lot on here just weigh from home too so it can be done

I weigh in at home and have done from the start. The key is continuity. Same time same place same clothes (or not) I've managed just fine with a standard pair of salter scales.

Whenever I have joined SW, my home scales have always, without exception, weighed exactly the same as the class ones. I am a constant weigher and used to weigh myself before I went to class...I don't like surprises!! ;)
I still went to class though as I wasn't going just to be weighed but for the group support also. These days I don't need the support, I can do it on my own, its taken years of dieting though I have to admit.
My point is though, if your scales differ from one week to the next I would suggest that your scales are not that accurate? As already said, SW scales are more likely to be right than any home scales. Yes, there have been rare incidences where the SW scales have been wrong but that was only found out when lots of people in a class had a problem with their results one week.
I think maybe you need to think about why you attend a group, for the support or the weigh in or both and the decide.

Don't forget also.....1.5 lbs is still a great loss....WELL DONE!

Thanks and I am pleased with 1.5, I go to class purely for the fact I have to weigh in every week and it gives me a target/goal for that week, otherwise it would be a case of "I'll start tomorrow" everyday. I'll crack on with this week regardless x

I weigh in at home, same spot on the floor, same clothes, same time... etc. etc.
I did invest in some more expensive scales which cost about £40 I think but they are the same as my GP's scales which is what I need as I get weighed every time I go for my contraceptive pill. I think the decision of weighing at home or at group depends on the reason you go to group and whether you need the peer support or can go it alone.

I think the support on here suffices to be fair, doesn't it?

This is exactly why I go. I need the structure.
Totally envious of people who can successfully go it alone.

Oh I agree! But if you need the extra 'accountability' of going to a group, as I know I do, then I think that weighing in at home as well as at a class can be counterproductive. Even though I'm at target and don't have to pay, I still go to group every couple of weeks because I need that accountability. Respect to those that can do it from home.

Maybe so, but you also say in another post that you go to be weighed as it gives you a target/goal every week.
That would suggest to me that you may be better sticking with the group.....?

Years ago I needed to attend a group for the simple reason that if I had a bad day, it more often than not turned into a bad week. Going to class gave me a new starting point.
I'm not sure how, but these days I can have something 'naughty' and just forget it and carry on on the straight and narrow!! Of course that's not the general idea of the plan (!) but what I mean is, 1 bad thing doesn't make me go off the rails anymore. I can certainly have a bad day now and wake up the next day and get straight back to it......like yesterday for instance!!! ;)

Yeah I think when I know I have to weigh in, I'm much better that week

Yes I think your right, I too easily can turn bad every day. That's it then, group I stay! Thanks

My scales and my friends scales say we've lost more than we have than the slimming world ones. My ones were 1.5lbs off and my friends were 2lbs off.
Mine were a wooing 3lbs wrong!
