New and feeling really bad :-(

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the site although I've been reading for a while and found it really helpful.
I started Slimming World two weeks ago. The first week I stuck to it completely and lost 6lb. The second week it was my birthday and I managed to resist most treats but did have a couple of pieces of cake and quite a few chocolates... I didn't eat many other syns during the week though and lost 2lb at weigh in. However, this weekend I have two meals out, Italian on Friday and all you can eat Chinese on Saturday. I was worrying about eating too many syns and putting weight on and for some stupid reason decided there was no point trying to be good and so had a massive binge today :-( I feel so guilty and stupid as I probably could have stayed within my syns on Friday and flexi-synned on Saturday. I'm embarrassed to write down what I've eaten but am going too anyway. I've had four Hotel Chocolat chocolates, seven Thorntons, the remains of a bag of Walkers Sensations, five Crème Eggs and a piece of chocolate cake. I can't believe I've done it- that's more than my weeks syns in one day! The only good thing is that now all of my birthday treats have gone.
If I'm straight back on plan for the rest of the week is there any way I can avoid putting on weight (even with the Chinese Saturday) or have I blown it now? I get weighed on Monday. I feel so guilty and horrible :-(

Hi chocolatefudge, and welcome to the forum.

Firstly, don't think that you're alone in what has happened, this has happened to us all on occasions, there really is no point dwelling on it now, what is done is done. It is impossible to predict whether the combination of the chocolate, the Italian and the Chinese will result in a loss, a gain, or a maintain, so really try not to worry. What you can do though is perform some damage limitation at the weekend. It is quite easy to visit the Italian without going overboard on the syns, just try to avoid the creamy dishes, the bread, the puddings and the booze. Choosing something like fish or chicken with veg would be fine. Similarly with the Chinese, although it's a bit harder to be slimming world friendly with Chinese over the Italian, it's still possible to not go overboard! Try to avoid the sweet, sticky and fried and go for dishes like chicken in black bean or beef and mushroom. Boiled rice instead of fried will also save on the syns.

And if, IF, you do have a gain or a maintain next week then you need to firstly be soooo proud of your loss so far! 8lb in two weeks in seriously good, so even if you were to put on a pound or two, if you calculate your average loss over the three weeks I'm sure it will still be impressive.

We all fall off the wagon once in a while but the best thing you can do is take it in your stride and try to avoid the bumps in the road in the future! Xx

My advice, is draw a line under today, forget about it and move on. You have had you're binge and now try to become positive. If you stick to plan 100% then you should be okay for a loss, but be prepared if it isn't as big a loss as you want

I done this a few week ago , you'll prob find my thread, I lost 1lb that week after drawing a line and starting again....with 10 syns a day still and I ate more than you! X

I agree with the others. What's done is done, worrying won't make a scrap of difference. As Wellington said "tie a knot and carry on".

And as all those "treats" are now gone, make it a rule never to have those things in the house again. Then if temptation does strike, they won't be there to lead you astray.

I had a rubbish day yesterday, probably had about 100 syns and I feel sick today still lol but im drawing a line and getting back on it today! Well done for the great losses, you have lost more than me in your first week than I have lost in 3!!

Xxx

:welcome:

I can only see positives in your post:

1) You have been motivated to join this forum :party0011:

2) You have a refreshingly honest personality :)

3) You understand your weaknesses (and that is half the battle, in my opinion) :)

4) You *want* to do something about it! (and that is the other half of the battle, in my opinion) :)

5) You still have much of the week remaining before your weigh in :)

Here are my thoughts on how you could do some 'damage limitation':-

a) accept the advice from more experienced members above: Stick to the plan 100% from now :)

b) can you increase your activity for the week? Walking extra, perhaps?

c) Most importantly: ditch the "guilt"!!! (
Did you know, "guilt" is an anagram of "Lug it"? And that is what we do with guilt, we lug it around everywhere we go: it will weigh you down far more than anything you've eaten: get rid of it!)

d) Remind yourself: you cannot change what *has* happened, you can only change what you *make* happen :) So, what can you make happen between now and weigh in?

e) Rome wasn't built in a day! You will have losses, you will have gains and you will have plateaus.
Think of it as a bus/car/taxi journey: some roads you will sail along; others may be a bit congested and hold you back a bit; other times you get stuck at traffic lights/pedestrian crossings. But, you don't give up on your destination do you? No, of course not, you persevere :)

Finally,

f) focus on what you *have* achieved!! You have already shown an impressive weight loss in a very short time - well done!!! :0clapper:

Wow! Thank you so much everyone, I can't tell you how much better I feel reading your replies. I feel much stronger today and am going to stay on plan 100% Chocolate is my major weakness so I'm going to make sure to keep none in the house (I ate it all yesterday anyway!) If it's in I can't help but eat it, no matter how full I get I can't stop, it's like an illness!

I've looked at the Italian menu and think I'm going to choose a pasta dish with tomato, onions, bacon and chilli. I'm hoping this will be quite low in syns and it will only be any oil used in cooking that I will need to worry about?

Well done for planning your meal out in advance and drawing a line. That makes a MASSIVE difference to staying on plan when eating out. Yes, it sounds like you just need to allow some syns for the oil. Unfortunately restaurants do tend to use fresh pasta (not dried) which has a couple of syns (it contains oil) but overall this is a very healthy choice. Also, if you save your HexB option for the day, you can use that to offset 6 syns from the oil, as Italian dishes use olive oil and 1 tbsp. is a HexB (6syns).

I have had weeks like this and was supplied that i didnt put much on if any at all. I crave chocolate so instead i have an options hot chocolate and that usually hits the spot. As for chinese i have one most weekend from the takeaway and still lose weight i tend to have chicken with pineapple which is like sweet and sour chicken but the chicken is just chicken not battered and i have it with plain boiled rice i think its about 7/8 syns so well within my syn limit for the day.

Keep up the good work and be proud of yourself you are doing a fantastic job xx

Thanks again!

Gwella, thank you so much for the Hex tip, I didn't realise oil was included as I only ever use mine for Hifi bars or wholemeal bread so wasn't sure what else was allowed.

Pudge, I'm not too bothered about the main section of the Chinese, but each course is brought to the table for us to share so there will be loads of different starters at the beginning. I don't want to look really strange and sit and eat nothing and obviously don't want to pay for something I won't eat but will try to make the healthiest choices that I can. Fell much better for just posting on here!

I'm in the same situation as you chocolatefudge, had a really tiring day yesterday, my little boy was sick in need 200% attention but I still kept to the plan but this morning I woke up with horrendous back pain from picking him up all day yesterday, when I dropped him to creche i had to go to the garage to pump up a nearly flat Tyre and bought and ate 1 pack of milky way stars, a boost bar and 3 freddos.......and then had free chips and gravy. Feel like ****!! I've had to take co codamol for the back pain which really dopes me out so feeling extra tired now.

Lesson learnt for me is to get up early and eat breakfast before life gets in the way!!! Being prepared is the trick I think. I wish you the best of luck.......remember we're all in the same boat we just don't tell eachother! x

:grouphugg: Hope your back is feeling better soon and your little son is back to 100% :grouphugg:

Hope I'm not too late posting this, but you may want to allow some additional Syns for the pasta dish. The Italian restaurant is likely to use fresh pasta which is Synned, as apposed to dried pasta which would be free.

I'm going to an Italian on Valentines Day and was chatting with my consultant about it. I'm going for penne arabbiata, which is basically a spicy tomato pasta. She advised to allow between 5-10 Syns for any oil and fresh pasta they may use.

Just wanted to warn you, as this might help protect your weight loss this week too!

hey hun - don't worry about your meals out - or your blip with the choccie! you are back on plan now and I hope you get a loss or maintain still on Monday!

you have had great advice, so I have very little to add - but perhaps mention when ordering your Italian, that if you could have as little oil as possible then they may cook it differently and save you a couple of syns.

At the Chinese, order loads of steamed rice and veggies and eat these FIRST - then move onto dishes low in sysn like beef in black bean, chicken and mushrooms, chicken chow mein and stay away (big shouty letters) from the fried stuff - prawn crackers are not your friends!!!! :)

Have a good weekend x

Thanks to everyone for all your advice. I went out for the Italian, drank water, had no starter or pudding and had a tomato based pasta. Felt very strong! Then I went and spoiled it all on Saturday night by eating LOADS at the Chinese (it was gorgeous though.) To make matters worse I was given six HUGE bars of Dairy Milk in all different flavours and a big bag of Giant Buttons as birthday presents from some friends we went out with. There's no way I could resist them so I sent them round for my brother to eat. The hardest thing I've ever done! But I know I'd eat them if they were here with me.
I then visited my inlaws on Sunday and had a roast dinner. I had no Yorkshire pudding or roast potatoes and was doing well back on plan... Then my MIL said she'd forgotten to give me a box of chocolates she had bought me for my birthday. I ate the whole box!!!!! I went to group yesterday morning expecting a massive gain. I had a massive shock when I got on the scales and had lost half a pound! I feel very lucky and am 100% back on plan now. I think sticking to plan around the meals out (and copious amounts of chocolate...) must have done me good as I never expected to lose anything.
The only difficult thing is that after getting home feeling positive about being back on plan I found a massive box of Thorntons had been left in my porch from my Auntie as a belated birthday present! I can't bear to give them away so am having a few each day within my syns. Chocolate seems to follow me everywhere!!

Well done! That's great news for a difficult week, many people gain when there are bday treats around.
You made some good choices and also had some treats and sounds like you're staying in control with the Thorntons. Take time to really savour them. I sometimes tell myself that on SW we learn to enjoy food more because we really value those treats.
Re the Dairy Milk - good choice and well done. Sometimes we know when temptation will get the better of us. At the end of the day, you can buy yourself Dairy Milk in more sensible quantities when you want it. It's not going to go anywhere :)

Well done on your 1/2 pound

Hopefully, by sticking to plan this week, those extras won't creep up and affect next weeks loss :bighug:
