How do I speed up weight loss ?

Hi rejoined my group beginning of Jan and am 5 1/2 lbs lighter which is good but was wanted to know if there's a way I can give myself a boost ? I have 3 stone to loose I follow extra easy and have followed the plan I write everything down or I'd forget I eat lots of fruit but not as much veg I always have my syns . I'm not exercising at the moment as I have knee problems I use to run but to be honest it didn't make a great difference to weight loss but I did feel fitter . I'm thinking this week doing more red days chicken and fish for a change. Just finding it a bit frustrating as lots in my group are loosing 3+ per week and say they're still going out for meals some 2/3 times per week plus drinking as well and they genuinely seem shocked when they've lost . It's hard to stay focused and beginning to think there is something I'm doing wrong ? Don't want to moan cause I have lost weight just don't want to get down and give up again ! Thanks x

For me the big thing is having the 1/3 super free and sticking to super free in snacks. I get my shopping and spend an hour cutting and chopping veggies into pots so I can grab them when nibbling. Loads of carrots, peppers, baby corn, cucumber, celery for example. I actually find it hard to have my Hexb so have now started having cereal most mornings or I was grabbing a hi if bar which doesn't help me (ahem move!)

Syns I have 10-15 a day I try and add it to meals so feta cheese to salad, mayo, olive oil to fry of my chicken ect. I do have syn treats curly wurly wotsits

Lots of superfree and drinking loads of water would be my advice.

I know its a bit cold but could you swim to up your exercise levels - or even a bit more walking. I've been doing at least 4 combat/pump classes a week and have manintained for 3 weeks! But my clothes feel so much better so I totally get what you mean about exercise (so good for you though). I KNOW I'm losing but like to see those damn numbers on the scales going down!!

Can I also add - when I did WW a friend of a friend went to and used to lose well every week - but I knew that she lived on cup a soups and crab sticks and very little else so of course she got to goal every time then piled it back on. So these fantastic losers might be following the sw plan for their great losses but also they might not be! Try not to compare - though its very hard not to

Have a look through your book and find foods labelled with SS or S. These are Super Speed and Speed foods. These will help to boost your weight loss.

Exactly what I was going to say!! Try not to compare yourself with others, are bodies are different and not everyone gets big losses- annoying as it is!
Also are you drinking enough? I've got better losses the weeks I've made an effort to drink 2l a day. And mixing up my HEB helped too (although I do green so get 2)

Totally agree. Mix your healthy extras and try not to have the same things everyday

A simple way to give yourself a boost is to make speed swaps.

So using the food optimising book, try to focus on eating the free and superfree foods with an S symbol where possible, as these are extra low calorie dense for their filling power, and therefore eating these instead of other options can boost losses.

There is a speed challenge, where you eat at least 7 speed foods in place of / not as well as other options each day, limit syns to 7 per day, and do this for 7 days - supposedly boosting your weight loss to up to 7 lbs in the week. I have not tried it, but it was talked about in our group.

There is also a success express option that you can get a diary for from your consultant that can get you moving quicker - its explained best on the SW website, i do a couple of days success express when i feel things are not moving at a speed i like just to give me a confidence boost.

Some people have had luck with boosted losses from having "fish weeks" or having fresh lemon a lot more in their diet... There are threads somewhere on here about it from memory that you could potentially revive via a quick search.

You've done so well though... I genuinely do think that slow and steady wins the race and you can't compare yourself to others. You want a healthy and steady weight loss of 1-2lb per week. I know it's easier said than done but stick at it, whatever you're doing, is working. xx

Agree with the above that 1-2lb is a good loss, and you have less to lose than many people on SW - I started just a few lb lighter than you and that's my average loss. To lose too quickly is not good for long term maintenance as it means you have a big calorie deficit which can slow your metabolism and mean you're missing out on nutrients.

That said, I've lost the same as you since Christmas I think and it is a little bit slow for my liking too. Been staying the same the last couple of weeks, but trying to really push for a good loss this week. The way I'm doing it is:

- stick to the plan 100%, including the 1/3 superfree at EVERY meal, superfree for nearly all snacks, 10 syns most days with a couple of 15-syn days. That said, I sometimes find a higher-syn meal out or something helps mix it up and keep things going sometimes!
- have lots of fish. I don't eat meat but fish does tend to boost my losses. On days I don't have fish I'm doing Green and trying to stick to just one HexA.
- have lots of fibre - Scanbran really does help! I had 2 1/2 Scanbran this morning with quark, rocket and smoked salmon. Combined with lots of water this can get things going again.
- I'm also aiming to have most of my syns as part of a meal eg butter on a potato, quorn sausages, stirfry sauces. People sometimes find this helps. I've planned these syns into each day of the week. Then each day I can decide if I really want an extra treat like chocolate or a glass of wine, but I don't have it 'because I can', only if I really want it. I think limiting sugar/alcohol helps keep the blood sugar stable.

Good luck! Keep going and you will get there eventually.

Thanks for the fantastic advice have been looking up speed food in book & trying to eat more of them . Didn't think about drinking more water so will def try to have more . I do think Sw is a great diet & one I could stick with tried WW didn't last long was starving ! Good luck xx

You could also try the scan bran challange. I found this got me out of a rut, prob just cos it changed things up a bit for me. You eat 5 scan bran every day for a week as your hexb and drink lots of water. I think I'm going to do it every few weeks (every 4-6 weeks) to help boost losses.

I lost another lb so that's 6 &1/2 lbs in 6 weeks I did mix things up had a few red days more fish chicken fruit & veg but no big difference just have to accept that weight comes off slowly for me & if I was trying I wouldn't be losing any weight at all and could be much heavier ! Going to start walking more this week although exercising makes me gain or stay the same so I'm a bit reluctant to start :/ x

I always find the best way to speed up weight loss is exercise. Which is the answer nobody wants to hear. Obviously it is good for you body but mentality I think it helps me to stay on track. I don't think exercise is really promoted by slimming clubs as they know people hate it...but I'm just giving my opinion.

I agree with craft queen , excersize compliments healthy eating. The thought of excersize fills me with dread but when I'm doing it and when it's over , I feel great. Even just walking to the shop will help.

Yup and sometimes the weight loss isn't always increased but the inch loss is the main thing. People notice inch loss. If you lose 5lbs and no inches...what's the point.

Why don't you take your measurements then take them again after exercising for 2 weeks and I think that will show you more results than the scales!...exercise is the key yo any diet really. Once you start shrinking you won't care if the scales are only showing a lb ...inches is what you want to loose. Good luck

I do have to agree with babyweight 2014 with the Scan Bran challenge.
It seems to work brilliant and it is a really good boost to you to get back on track.
If I have a bad couple of weeks I will do this just as a boost for me
