Newbie & Fussy eater!?
I joined slimming world on Monday and would love some moral support :-)
I done WW about 4 years ago (on the old points) lost 3st but had some horrible family problems and put it all back on plus some :'( I don't like the new pro points so thought I would give SW a go especially as I basically live on potato/pasta anyway!
I'm mega fussy and hate salad, meat and veg :-/ I do eat a lot of fruit so I'm hoping SW will work for me? Least I'm trying it!
Just wondered if anyone else is like me?
I'm a fussy eater too, but SW can and does for because you tailor is around the foods or type of foods that you do like! Do you associate salad with specific leaves? I'd never touch a salad before because in my head it was lettuce (Yuk!), but I discovered I liked spinach, so add things I do like (cheese etc) to it! I'm not a huge meat eater but Quorn's pretty tasty - have you tied it?
Veg vise, my best advice would be to try some, find the ones you do like, and hide the others than you can tolerate in food with overpowering flavors - do you dislike all veg or just prefer other things over it? If you like baked beans i usually add some to a simple dinner by hiding it in beans - I've similar food mentality to that of a 4 year old, so if I can't see if or taste it - it's okay!
What are your favorite kinds of food? SW has a lot of good substitutes!

I just hate all veg, makes me gag :eek: I've been to a hypnotist to try and get over my 'fear' but sadly nothing seems to work!? I occasionally try something new and have tried a couple of things this week but no joy!
I don't like the texture of baked beans so always have spaghetti which I'm so pleased is free as can have a jacket with spag & cheese (a) all for free :)
I normally live on pizza, sausages, potatos(chips/rosti's/roasts) or plain pasta with tomato ketchup (which I have substituted for pureee in my pasta today)
I have stocked up on fruit and muller lights so hoping I can loose even with my fussy-ness?
Oh I see, that does make it a bit tough! Do you have any veg on your pizzas at all? Tomato passata I believe is superfree on SW, so you could make pasta sauces out of that - it's basically pureed tomato that resembles ketchup - no bits! How about purreed fruit if it's a texture thing? You could make a vegetable soup and you'd never even notice there's bits in there if you blend it properly - then you'd be getting your 5 a day! :)
I make a mean SW pizza, using a wholemeal Asda pitta (HeB) as the base, topped with cheese (HeA) and various toppings, I normally do deli ham (the thin slices) with mushrooms and pineapple - but you could put pretty much anything on it - considering an average pizza is about 30-40 Syns for frozen small, it's free and delicious, really hits the spot!
How are you with fish? Tinned tuna mixed with light mayo and cheese goes really well with jackets!
Quorn also do low syn meat free sausages (0.5Syns for 1 I think), and Slimming World chips are divine and free - just chop them into chip shapes, coat with fry light and bang in the oven till crispy - you can season them but anything you like, I usually do sea salt and garlic.

Nope I'm so bad even hate the taste of veg :confused: Saw somewhere there are some 0.5-1syn sausages so going to give those a try also look out for tomato passata as that sounds better than puree!
Think I could force pea's down if I had to haha also maybe cucumber? Might get one over the weekend and try!
Yes I'm looking forward to making some syn free chips! Bought myself an actifry so can try a few things in there, plus it means I can chuck hubbies beloved deep fat fryer which is soo gross!! haha!!

The good thing is they're not even that small! I normally do them on a lazy evening (where before I'd have had takeaway or oven chips) with a mugshot or a sandwich and it's really filling.
Oh I can sympathize, I used to hate the taste of most veg, my tastes have changed though and I find myself liking more and more as I continue with SW. I'd definitely recommend passata, it's really cheap and you can add herbs as you like - a great pasta sauce I do it mix it with a chicken/beef stock cube and a little water, some garlic, pepper and mixed herbs - if you add Quorn mince to it then it's a really good spag bol sauce.
Also if you do rice dishes, hide some peas (or petis pois, which is better for you!) in it, the rice overpowers the taste and if you cook them in with it whilst it's boiling down the texture changes!
Best advice would be don't try them on their own if you tend not to like them, try and hide them as much as possible, because you'll get used to them being IN your food which will make them easier to stomach alone :)
If you're having fruit as your superfree, you need to make sure you have them either before your Free food (as a starter) or kind of on the side. This is because the 1/3 superfree guideline is to ensure we fill up on these foods and don't eat too much pasta, potato etc (though they are theoretically unlimited). However if you don't eat meat/fish, you are essentially doing the Green plan where this guideline has only recently been introduced so maybe it is less important.
Agree with the others that if there is ANY way you can sneak veg in, go for it. Even if it's mincing up some mushrooms into tiny bits and hiding them in some quorn mince or a potato filling. If you like fruits are there any of the sweeter veggies you could manage? If you roast them they sometimes go sweeter. Pomegranate seeds are fruit but can be nice to add to main courses. And of course strictly tomatoes are a fruit too!
Remember peas are Free but not Superfree. So they are v good for you and a great start to eating veggies, but they don't count towards the 1/3 superfree.
Brekkie & Lunch is no problem with superfree foods as I can stock up on the fruits its just dinner!

I'll give it a good go for a month or 2 and if it's not working I'll have to go back to WW as I know that works for my fussy-ness?
Also just a quick note to add, just sat here bored on my lunch break so I added my food diary to myfitnesspal for the past few days and I am very happy with the calorie intake!!! Its what I set myself to loose 2lb a week but couldn't stick to it before, just shows going to class and learning what foods are better to fill you up really helps :-D xx
^^ Brilliant! I often total my calories at the end of the day, just out of curiosity to know I'm not over eating - it really does tend to fall into line with the RDA. Are you starting a diary on here or just keeping a track on there?
Don't know how to do it on here, have been using the SW tracker online and myfitnesspal app, either way I'm chuffed and hoping to notice on the scales Monday :p
I am a very fussy eater to! I did SW last summer and I don't eat fruit or Salad, like veg though.
I tended to eat loads of beans and mushy peas with my meals as they are a speed food which are good for you.
I lost 8.5 pound in week 1 and I can honestly say I lived off SW Bolognese, chilli, gammon, chips etc. In 4 weeks I lost 1 st 4 pound then had my holiday and it all went wrong!!!
Anyway good luck, you will be fine! My leader said although beans and mushy peas are not super free they are a speed food which helps weight loss! If you like them then may help your losses! X

People basically just start a new thread in the diary section and log what they've eaten so others can see and to help them stay on track - but if you're doing it elsewhere I wouldn't worry :)

Do you like soup? You could make loads of different yummy soups, whizz it all up so its smooth. May be a good way to up your veg intake.
