    Adverse effects of weight loss

Having got myself back into my size 14s this week (yays) I was shocked to be hit with period pains the like of which I've not seen since 2007 (last time I was this size and less).

I've noticed them getting gradually worse over the last few months, but today was a real b***h. I'll put up with the cramps to be fitter and healthier - painkillers and a hot water bottle have been a great help! Although if they continue to worsen, I'll seek my doctor's advice.

Has anyone else noticed that PMT and period pains have exacerbated as weight is lost or had any other adverse effects?

Being old enough to know better isn't all it's cracked up to be

I've no doubt that they probably could get worse, in someone with PCOS, like me, going from 17st to 12st restarted my periods (i lost them completely but losing weight kicked them back in), so i see no reason that weight loss couldn't effect anyone in similar ways by lightening or worsening.

The only thing I noticed with my periods when I lost weight is that they became regular. Every 29 days it would show up without fail.

In the past when I was obese they were so irregular, it was hard to keep track.

Maybe see the GP regarding the period pains, not sure what they can give to help other than the pill (which isn't the best option for health)

Just because you are doing one thing, and another thing happens, does not mean that one causes the other. It could be entirely coincidental.

You should see your doctor about this.

Yeah, I'll get myself down there if I can get an appointment Mine are also becoming more regular, which is a good thing... So... Huzzah!?

Hi AnnaFaraday, the reason I suspect causality is that I only get these type of pains when I am below a certain weight. I suspected that the return to normal hormonal activity impacts upon my PMT, flow and pain levels (or possibly my pain threshold!). I do not believe this is a coincidence, but I shall see my doctor, assuming it continues.

Totally agree with this. Get professional advice. Don't suffer pain if you can get help with this.

I agree with the others above - seek medical advice. I've noticed having lost 1st 6lbs that my time of the month is quite a lot lighter and virtually pain free, though I still have moody moments leading up to it! haha
