Hi - after much diliberation i have decided to join Slimming World ) I did join and go to a group last year a couple of times but found it had a negative effect as the members sat talking about the naughty food they'd been eating (crumpets, cheesecake etc) which I found hard. So this time I have decided to follow it myself and when I get back from holiday (end of March) I will be joining properly online. I hope it works for me this way...? My biggest struggle is grazing on crisps, buiscuits and chocolate in front of the TV at night and I get little support from my boyfriend who doesnt understand (im not a big girl but am fed up of yo-yo dieting). That's why i've joined this forum, so I've got some support and motivation for when I need it.

So.... here's to giving it another go!!!

Hiya Loopy!
Welcome aboard! I find watching TV hard too but I always have a curly wurly in the fridge for my evenings!
Lasts for ages and I look forward to it all day long.

Good luck x

Thank you for your welcomes )

I love curly wurlys! I was reading another thread earlier and someone suggested having a treat box just for yourself with low syn snacks - simple but i think it's a great idea. My own little box of loveliness! I have also been reading about some peoples losses so far and it's amazing to read, very inspiring!

6 syns for a curly wurly

You mention your boyfriend isn't supportive... have you spoken to him why it's important for you to be eating healthier and loosing a few lbs? He, more thank likely, thinks you look fantastic the way you are so questions why you feel the need to bother with anything like SW. If you can at least vocalise why it's important to you and that you'd really like his support then he might not question it as much.

Good luck!

Thanks RM07. He thinks sport is the answer to everything! (He's a runner but I hate running). Also, he is one of those lucky people who can eat as much as he likes without gaining weight. So he thinks I should eat whatever i want and just excersise more. We've talked about it before and he'll say he'll support me but then sit and offer me chips, chocolate etc!! He doesnt do it on purpose, he's just being nice but doesnt realise that I really struggle with willpower! Bless him.

He's lucky he can get away with eating what he wants and exercising it off. Exercise has it's place but eating healthy isn't all about looking good on the outside... it's about your body being good on the inside. For me my diet HAD to change and funny enough three months into my SW journey I took up running and I'm following a C25K program. I wouldn't say I love running but I'm actually missing it this week (kids on half term) and I'm looking forward to being able to run this weekend when they go to their dad. There are so many different sports out there though... maybe something you could do together like tennis?

Talk with him again and maybe set some ground rules about offering you chips/chocolate etc at least to start with as you get to grips with the plan and work on your will power. When I first did SW in 2009 my ex was the same saying he'd support me and wanted to see me happy... all whilst ordering a Domino's and handing me a slab of chocolate! I find it MUCH easier this time round as it's just me and the kids.

When I started slimming world, I told my husband that obviously he can eat what he likes as it's me dieting not him, however I asked him to not offer me anything he's having. It's hard to say no, so I took the option away. It's working really well for us. Another thing I do, if he's eating something I would like, I check the syns that are in it, that soon puts me off :p

It's good to know there are people out there who have had the same challenges! I will set some ground rules for now and will see how i get on (fingers crossed!) :) :) Thanks again
