Extra Easy Feeling a bit disheartened - not sure if I trust the EE plan?!

Hi All,

New to this site but seems there are some seasoned and knowledgeable slimmers on here!

I started SW on 8th Jan this year and had a good loss in my first week (5LB) but prior to that I was still in post Christmas "binge" mode. I'm 44 and reasonably active and just have a couple of stone to shift. In subsequent weeks my weight loss hasn't been that good just 1lb a time.

However, I don't trust the plan! What I've found myself doing is sticking to the plan and having the syns as recommended Thurs to Sun (my WI day is Wed). I then find I've put a pound or so on so am really strict with myself Mon to Wed. I know this isn't the way to do it but I don't have the confidence to follow it fully as I don't think I'll lose. I struggle to get my HAs in some days let alone syns.

On the plus side, I have lost 11lb (which includes first week big loss and a 3lb loss one week when I was ill) and my acid reflux has disappeared. However I'm just worried I'm not following the plan as I should.

I stay to group every week and can't believe that the people there eat the amount they do and still lose weight.

Any advice gratefully received.

I've only been on the plan a week but soo many people have done really well with it, think you just need to stick to it. Make sure you have your HE's and I saw in a post somewhere that someone was struggling to lose more than 0.5lb a week so they increased there syns and lost more? No idea how but worth a try?

1lb a week is nearly 4st in a year so don't be to worried!!

The plan does work but you do have to follow it properly. There are three components to the diet:
1) the super free and free food. 1/3 of every meal must be super free.
2) the healthy extras, you must have both of these a day.
3) 10-15 syns per day, if your not having your syns your not following the plan.

a 1lb loss a week is fab, but if you want to try loose a bit more, follow the plan. Cutting out components of it, will make you feel deprived, and more likely to binge or give up.

slimming world is not just about following a diet, it's about changing your eating habits and the way you think for life, not just until you've lost your weight.

Thanks and good luck with your SW journey! Yeah the HE is something I need to think about. I find if I don't have cereal for breakfast I struggle to fit them in during the day.

Thanks for your reply. I am religious about the 1/3 superfree but take on board what you say about the HE and Syns. The daft thing is, I could follow the plan easily for life if I had the confidence to do it properly. My sister started at the same time as me and has stuck to it but her loss has been negligible (about 2lb over the course of 6 weeks) so maybe this is at the back of my mind too.

Every persons weight loss, it's so easy to compare yourself to others. Try to remember each persons weight loss is unique to them.

When I first started, I went with a friend. I followed the plan to the letter and lost 3lbs my first week, my friend didn't and cheated and lost 7lb! I was so disheartened and actually never went back, this was in September. I rejoined this January and have so far lost 12.5lbs, my friend however stayed and right now she's lost 1.5lb! She would loose one week, gain the next etc, so in 5 months she's actually only lost 1.5lb. If I hadn't compared myself to her I could have been a few stones lighter.

Try following the plan, and look at your loss over a month rather than week to week, have the confidence you can do this!!

I use mine as snacks most of the time, mini baybel lights I'm a little addicted too at the mo haha, also alpen light bars, I like most of them but the cherry bakewell is amazing!

Hope this helps! And thanks I'm looking forward to dieting which is weird haha!!

Ooh cherry bakewell Alpen bars, I'll need to get some of those! I'm pretty boring with my healthy extras, I always have weetabix and milk. It means I don't have to think about what I'm gonna have for breakfast everyday, and it's filling and I've used my HEs every day.

Wow, well done on your loss so far - that's fab! Yeah I guess looking at it over the course of a month does help. I need to stop going to Boots for illegal weigh ins in between times I think!

Also bear on mind that not everyone who says they have been 100% on plan actually have been. Sometimes they are making mistakes without realising it such as not measuring the healthy extras or estimating syns etc. good luck with you weight loss journey :)

Yeah they are really nice :p

I found that Weetabix & milk wasn't filling me up enough so would rather use my HE on something else and have a free brekkie like muller light & a banana!

xx

I agree with what's been said above. You're not really following the plan unless your also having your HEx's and Syns. You're also not doing yourself any favours by following it for half of the week and then being really strict with yourself for the other half.

I also want to point out that your weight fluctuates daily, even hourly! So just because you're showing a gain half way through the week, that isn't necessarily what the scales are going to say on weigh day. Ditch the scales!!

Stop overthinking the plan. It works - there are tonnes on here who are living proof. Just stick to plan 100% for the FULL week, and I'm sure you'll see a difference!

The weeks where I forget to have my HeX's each day or don't eat my full 15 syns a day worth are the weeks I do 'badly'.

Why not commit to the plan 100% for a couple of weeks and see what happens?

Re look through your book! I have my Hexb often as olive oil, nuts or seeds, dried fruit added to fresh as I'm not a huge cereal eater (tend to like fruit and yogurt) or mushrooms, cherry toms and bacon with egg!

Keep going x

Thanks all. This was what I needed to hear. It's weird how obsessive and almost superstitious you can become. I will commit to eating syns and healthy extras on a daily basis and see where we go.

You're a lovely lot on here!! x

Really happy you lost 2lbs this week, well done hun. Like others have said stick to the plan it does work. My first week I was like "there is no way i can lose weight and eat this amount of food" but of course I did. Good luck with your journey x
