SW Dissapointment :(

After many attempts doing the sw diet I've decided that for whatever reason it doesn't work that well for me . I have lost weight although very slowly 4 1/2 lb since Christmas! I need a diet that I can follow that I loose weight on or I will give up . I can honestly say that I have followed the plan I write every down that I eat and drink I always check my book constantly making sure I have my speed food and always measure my hexs have my 15 syns per day and drink lots of water . I'm also exercising by walking 3 miles 3times per week . I don't want to sound like a saint but to loose weight so slowly is very frustrating as not sure what I'm doing wrong ?? I k.ow that other people on here that have not done well on sw have changed their diet and have lost weight . So think this is what I must do . I do think that sw is a healthy eating plan and if I wanted to maintain my weight it would be perfect . I am going away mid August and want to be 21lbs lighter which I think is achievable just don't think sw is the way for me I need to fine something that does tho that's sensible and healthy any suggestions would be much appreciated :) Thank X

You want to be 21lb lighter in the next 24-ish weeks, so around a pound a week on average, and you've lost just under a pound a week on average so far, so you are doing almost exactly what you'd planned. :) A pound a week is a good loss.

Maybe you could keep trying for the whole of March, maybe by doing one red week, then a green and then a week on EE and so on, mix it up, choose a different breakfast each day for a week, vary your healthy extra B choices, etc.

Add in an extra exercise each week, something you enjoy, say swimming one week and a zumba class the next, or maybe something a bit different like ice-skating. :)

If you do decide to switch plans, Weight Watchers is quite good, and Myfitnesspal is good too, and it's free.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck. x

Maybe post your typical days food just incase there is something you are missing that you don't realise. Also you could give yourself a boost by doing a week of scan bran challenge, 777 week or the SUPERSPEED challenge maybe.

I know exactly how you feel as I am in the same boat in the sense that I lose sooo slowly on SW. However, overall I have lost just over a stone since June 2013 so it has been a success. I have done a few radical things such as counting WW points or calories on the odd week when I have been really fed up and needed a boost - but I must say That although I have had good losses these weeks, I have been very hungry these weeks and so have been glad to get back on SW the week after! For me long-term SW is the only one I can stick to, but I am not in a massive hurry to get to target. If you do decide to stick with SW then it may be worth checking that you are definitely adhering to the third superfree rule with every meal. Lots of people say this is the key and I have to be honest and say that this is the only part of the plan that I'm not 100% with but I am going to really focus on this from now on

Personally, I think EE is slow, but I'm in no hurry and I'm not prepared to give my unlimited meat and pasta for Red or Green. Quite often I hear others say they do so much better on Red or Green so if you want it to be quicker you could give it a try.

I think for some honest feedback you will need to tell us the following:

Which plan, is it EE, exactly how many weeks have you been doing it (is since Christmas, Boxing day, the New Year??). Your food diary - we will need to see it and you will need to be brutally honest (and are you eating the same old stuff week in and week out??). If you can tell us a bit more we are happy to try and help you

I do really try and mix things up I do use the scan bran to make sw cakes about once a week I also make sure I drink lots of water I'm desperate for Sw to work for me as I do like the freedom but I also would like a good weight loss ! Thanks x

Maybe try dropping your syns to 10? I usually have around 10 a day and have been losing quite quickly. I know the plan says up to 15 but everyone is different. I know some ladies in my group have to measure pasta and potato portions or they don't lose weight, even though the plan says unlimited.

:thinking2:mmmmmmmmm

I don't think that food diary looks bad at all IMHO. I would try the following - 1 week of Red; 1 week of Green; 1 week of mixing. Them compare what your results are.
Some dieters swear by the water thing, I really don't bother as I drink plenty already. The other thing of note is you are walking 3 miles a week and exercise can slow things down for a while, so you may have to be a little patient. You could also try 1 week of success express but that's not a long term solution and the only other thing I can think of is to either eat all 15 syns per day as you may need them all, or try a week where the syns are not 'goodies'. I have heard some say they have better losses if they use the syns in meals (for sauces, cheese etc and not crisps, choc). It really is trial and error. Sorry I don't have the exact solution but I think these could all be worth a trial, nothing to lose, but the weight!! Good luck :D

Have you taken measurements? With the walking it could be possible you're losing inches and not lbs just now.

Thanks for all your help am definitely going to try some of these and see how much I can loose by the end of March and going to do the 10syns for a while and mix it up a bit Thanks again feeling more positive already xx

Your sample food diary looks great. The only thing that rang bells for me is your mention of the scan bran cakes you have every week. The problem with things like the half syn cakes are that they are a tweak that can be a highly calorific one (loads of eggs etc). If I were you I'd avoid the SW cakes and see if that makes any difference. Good luck!

I definitely find my losses slow slightly when I use my syns on "goodies" rather than on meal ingredients. I know its all calories at the end of the day and technically there shouldn't be a difference but I put it down to blood sugar spikes maybe encouraging me to eat more free food at other times. I still have them obviously but try to consciously limit them to a few days a week rather than finishing off my syns with something sweet each night.

I definitely found EE slower for weight loss and stuck to green days until I reached target. EE is great for maintaining.
Also I don't have unlimited pasta/rice/couscous etc. I weigh out 50g per portion and it's loads. I eat stacks and stacks of superfree as well.
Good luck xx

What is the rush? Is there an event coming up that you want to look slimmer for, or a holiday soon that will be needing a swimming costume?
Unless there is a reason for the rush you have to see it NOT as "I'm on a diet and when I finally get to target I will allow myself to stop the diet and eat the things I enjoy again", but you have to view it as a lifestyle change. This is your new lifestyle, this is your forever-for-the-rest-of-your-life way of eating. It is good for you, it is healthy and an added benefit is that you will become slimmer by living this way.
Of course when you get to target you will
a) be so used to the eating plan that it will be more comfortable, more familiar and more enjoyable than it is now
b) be slimmer (Doh!)
c) be able to allow yourself a few more syns or treats than you do now and still keep the weight under control

But if you plan on reverting to old eating habits as soon as you get to target and as simply wanting to hurry the weight loss to allow yourself to revert then I feel (IMO) that there is no point in spending money on trying to do this.

If there is an event or reason for the rush then try some of the suggestions above about reducing syns and alternating eating plans between EE and red and green for a while just to speed you up to that special occasion, but afterwards you should plan on continuing to eat healthily as you are learning to do now.

I can't speak for the original poster but for me personally it's not about being in a rush to get to target but more the frustration you feel at sticking to the plan and then only having a tiny loss, a maintain or sometimes even a tiny gain. It's hard to stay motivated week after week if this is the case, especially when you know that if you took an alternative route then you would definitely get a loss and when you hear others in group get bigger losses when they've not been 100% on plan. Having said that, I am chipping away bit by bit and I know I will get to target eventually - and once I'm there I will stay there as I deffo know how to maintain!

Totally agree it's not a rush thing as been overweight most of my adult life it's the frustration of it week after week lost confidence in SW and I do really think that not every diet suits everyone we are all different and lose better on some diets than others ... x
