Dropping dress sizes? Experience please!

So, I've never been in the habit of weighing myself (until now) so don't really know where my goal weight is other than within the healthy range in terms of BMI. When I got married I got down to a size 16 but I have no idea what I weighed. Currently a size 20 and hoping to get back to a 16, can't even imagine being any smaller as I haven't been a size 14 probably since I was 14 years old!

My consultant (a man), suggested it's roughly a stone to a dress size, but that can't be right as people vary so much in their build/height?

I know everyone is different but what's your experience in terms of dropping dress sizes? Is it realistic to hope to get to a 16 by July for a family wedding? 2 sizes in 4 months?

As I said, I can't imagine being less than a 16, I'm 5'8" with big feet and hands for a lady so don't think I was ever meant to be thin!!

I'm slightly taller than you and when I started Slimming World I weighed 13st 9lbs and was a 14/16. I'm currently 12st 6lbs and comfortable wearing a 14. I used to be 11 stone and was a comfortable size 12 at that.

ETA It's taken me 6 weeks to lose 1st 3lbs so I think you could definitely be in a size 16 by July!

I started at a very tight size 14 and comfy size 16 in October (I'm 5ft 4). By Christmas I was in a very comfy size 12 and by mid January I tried on a size 10 and it fit beautifully. Not quite 2 dress sizes in 4 months, or two distinct dress sizes depending on the brand of clothing - shop sizes vary quite a bit. All the best with the plan and look forward to looking stunning at the wedding.

I'm the same height and was a VERY tight 16 (more like 18) when I started. I'm now a comfy 14 and that's 3.5 st later so I don't subscribe to the 1 st = 1 dress size either otherwise I'd be a 10/12. And I sooooo am not!!!

I'm 5ft 6 started at 13 st 1lb and a size 14. I'm now 10st and a size 8 to ten, so I spose for me it's true a size is a stone but I found I dropped from a size 12 to 8/10 within one stone, I do run quite a bit so not sure if the exercise may have helped with dropping dress sizes x x

I'm 5'7'' and a classic apple shape so carry most of my weight on my torso ... When I started sw I was a size 30/32 (though loose as I hate tight clothes). My first 2 stone or so off made no difference to my clothes size at all as I lost it all from my face, shoulders, arms and legs, but since then it's really changed and I'm in a comfortable 20 on the bottom and 18 on top, so 6 1/2 stone off has taken me 6 sizes down even though it took a while for things to even out :)

Thank you all, what amazing losses I am truly inspired by you all!
Very happy to have had a 6lb loss last night, feeling very much like it's possible and looking forward to wearing something nice for the wedding!! At least I'll be smaller than I am now!!

Hi there. I'm 5ft6, just over 15st and a 'flexible' size 18 (i.e. I'm really a 20, but refusing to admit it!!!). I know from past experience that if I get back into the mid to low 14s I'll be a comfortable 18, but won't get into most 16s until I get closer to 13st. The lowest I've been in recent years is just over 12st and at that weight I could get into some, but not all 14s. Beyond that is a distant dream...:p

I'm also 5'8" and when I started I was busting out of my very tight size 20 jeans... I'd say I was a 22 but just not admitting it or buying jeans in that size.

I've had two children and I carry all my weight on my stomach and thighs so this greatly impacts the size of jeans I have to buy. I'm currently in size 18's (I bought them after losing just over a stone) which are falling down however when I tried on size 16's (after losing another 2 stone) they didn't fit. I've also lost 3.5 inches from my waist and 4.5 inches from my hips since I bought the size 18's so I don't really understand why they 16's aren't fitting but I'm just going to blame my odd shape! Whatever size jeans I wear they hang off my legs... my thighs didn't really get that much bigger when i was my heaviest so I always look like I'm wearing baggy jeans... I just style it out or at least that's what I think to myself!

Finding the right jeans has always been a struggle!! Where have you tried? I find Next jeans have lots of stretch and the sizing's quite generous compared to some. How frustrating for you, sounds like you should be well into the 16s with all those inches off!!

I would say I'm pear shaped and have always had big legs - wide leg boots required! But since having children and gaining in this last year I have less waist and more tummy, I'm surprised noone's asked me if I'm pregnant again!! At least it's going now!

My size 18's were from Matalan and I assumed the next size down would fit ok. I might try Next then if they have a good fit... thanks for the tip!
