I love my SW group but .....

..... Right I have a moan today so here goes I have been a SW member for many years off and on and when I'm on plan I have to be 100% to get a small loss I never lose more than 1- 1 1/2 I've accepted this is how it works for me . But the thing that is really annoying me is there are quite a few members in my group that say how shocked they are to loose weight as they have been really off plan eating take a ways drinking some a few times a week plus way over on syns in general . It just annoys me as they always loose at least 2lbs + this week a member was saying how bad she had been and lost 4 1/2 lbs and won Slimmer of the week ! I think this is so unfair I'm not the only one that feels like this . I think that Slimmer of the week shouldn't be just weight loss based as some people including me will never get it and sometimes I think it should be for maybe someone that is struggling yet still attended group as this could help them feel motivated to get back on track . I really don't want to hear how "bad " other members have been and still lost especially when they get rewarded with Slimmer of the week ! Rant over with hope you all have a good weekend I'm off to Devon maybe I should have take a ways and booze then I may loose 7lbs !! x

Are these people bigger than you are Hun? Don't forget bigger people tend to lose larger amounts, my aunt for example is a size 24, but all she has to do is "cut down" so she's still effectively being bad, just less than before, but she'll still lose more than me weekly because she's bigger. Though totally agree it's wrong for people to brag about how bad they've been, are they boasting or is it more of a "I had a slip up, but then tried hard" I can see how it annoys you. Unfortunately that's the downside of going to group (and half the reason I don't!) because you might not get on with everyone.

Remember that your losses are still great though, and much healthier to lose slowly!

Some are bigger but not all but get your point . I really wish I could do this on my own but have tried and failed too many times in the past I need discipline . sometimes I do get a bit bored with group it's all very repetitive but I've been a member for years so guess it will be going over the same of stuff been thinking of staying just every other week just to break it up a bit but I do have some good friends x

I hate this too! I joined slimming world last August with a friend and she was texting me saying she had eaten this that and the next thing, I stuck to the plan and lost 2lbs very chuffed, until she got on the scales and lost 6lbs. I was gutted. Went for another 2 weeks being good, whilst she was bad I lost 1lb each week her more so. I was so disheartened I stopped going.

I rejoined in January, she had still gone but had put it all back on...lose one week, gain the next. I was determined I wasn't going to let her affect me, I've lost 18.5lbs she's put all hers back on and quit.

its so easy to be disheartened, no matter how much you tell yourself it won't bother you. A loss is great no matter how small, slow and steady wins the race. 1/2-1lb off a week is better, than 3–4lb off one week, gain 2lb next week etc

I really understand how you feel even though I don't go to classes anymore, I do SW online. Last year I was trying so hard some weeks - 100% on plan, no booze, switching up my food and getting STS after STS and if I dared to have a glass of wine then I was looking at a gain - I was so fed up I had to stop reading diaries here as I could see that people who slipped were still losing and I was struggling even when being angelic.

Of course, I fell off the diet, gained all the weight back and a few extra for luck. If I'd only stuck it out and gritted my teeth I would have been at target by now. So, I guess I learned not to measure my success against other people's. It's very hard and can be very frustrating though.

Hi, I also don't attend class, I do it online but have been a class member on and off for many years.
I think there will always be people like this. If I'm honest, when I was much younger, I was probably one of those people! I used to go out a the weekends drinking and stuffing my face with take aways and still see a loss. These days, I am like you (original poster) I am lucky to get a loss at all and for that I have to 100%. I'm not sure if that's an age thing (I'm 45 now) or whether all the diets have messed my body up? Probably a bit of both!!
What I think you have to take into account is, we are all different and no 2 people are going to get the same results regardless of what they eat, even if they ate exactly the same. I realise class is for support and if you have members like this, its not very supportive but just try and concentrate on yourself. Your stats are looking good, you have lost weight and that's what this is all about.
As they say, slow and steady wins the race...this is a journey, YOUR journey, just keep doing what you're doing, its working!!

Everyone's body make-up is so different that I just won't compare myself to anyone else - because at first I too couldn't understand how some people could "fall of the wagon" and lose more than I did - when I may well have been gagging for a glass of wine or contemplating cutting off one of my legs in exchange for a large Galaxy. Then I stopped letting it get to me - whilst I'm pleased to see others do well, the only weight that affects MY life is MINE. Hormones, your cycle, even how your body secretes enzymes is all unique to you and can affect your weight - some people can get away with overstepping the mark, some can't. I can stay perfectly sober if I drink a whole bottle of wine - my best friend starts acting like she's in a "Carry on" film after one glass. Hey ho, we're all different, that's life!

I agree with what's been said people saying how bad they've been and have a big loss. It can feel somewhat disheartening at times. There is the fact that the more people have to lose the bigger their losses in general though not always the case We had a target member in our class who has lost over 5 stone and been at target about 18 months She had a small gain but she said she read her books again went back to basics filling out a tracker weighing out hexs and had a 6lb loss. She is an over 40 too. I've followed her role and tried to do the same this week so fingers crossed But like others have already said it is our own race. Maybe SW could award slimmer of the week as a percentage of body weight lost as they do in biggest loser. Just a thought.

I know exactly how you feel and have often felt naffed off about this. One week in group I had lost 1/2lb (my usual) and I was moaning that whatever I do I only lose 1/2lb and that I would never win slimmer of the week and funnily enough I actually won slimmer of the week that week as you have to have had a loss it maintain in group the week before and I had lost 1/2lb the week before!! Just shows that some of these people with bigger losses hadn't been in group - prob because they are on more of a roller coaster. Small but consistent losses, that's me - plus because I know I can't get away with it I keep on the straight and narrow 99% of the time

I think Slimmer of the Week should be stopped. It doesn't achieve much (piece of paper and a bag of food, half of which you probably don't want) and it is so divisive and causes bad feelings.

Also - these other people. Ever thought that they might just not be telling the whole truth? People lie for the oddest reasons - I had a work colleague who would lie about what she had eaten in a restaurant even though we had all been there and seen what she was eating! The "oooh I have been so bad this week" could just be attention-seeking.

Anyway, you are you, so don't compare yourself in any way to anyone else. You are unique!!

I'm also not a fan of the slimmer of the week(unless of course I win it )
It can be annoying but as Anna says some people don't tell the truth, most may say they have been better than they have others may exaggerate for whatever reason how bad they have been or maybe they don't understand the plan fully and they haven't used their syns officially so the bad stuff they have is actually covered by their syns anyway or as others have said we are all so different our bodies react differently etc
The main thing is if you are following the plan you are learning whats good for you and your body and losing weight along the way at your pace x

I'm usually one of the biggest (if not the biggest) at group, and I never get slimmer of the week! I always have little losses (this week half a pound!) and I love SOTW, I have it down as one of the things I want to achieve this year, even just once... yes, that is very sad!

I vaguely remember, many years ago, that SOTW was given to the the person who had 'achieved' the most that week (ie, maybe STS for weeks but keeps going, then has a breakthrough and loses 2lb, etc) not simply who had lost the most every time, but now I'm wondering if that was just that particular leader as I've never seen that since, and I've been to lots of groups since, lol! xxxx
Started WW- Jul '13 @24st 1lb- BMI-52 and 56.5lb lost in total so far.

I think SOTW should be done on %. I once attended a group where a very large man won it for weeks on end!! Personally, I am not motivated by 'winning' a bag of food and a sticker, but remember, some people are. This guy had the advantage of 1) being a man!! (c'mon, everyone knows they lose weight quicker) and 2) being extremely overweight...OK, that's not an advantage, but you know what I mean!! lol
Yes, it was great for him and possibly motivated him week after week but I felt sorry for others that had lost a decent amount that week and didn't stand a chance of getting the award.
I think in all the years I have been a member (on and off) I'm not sure I ever won SOTW as I've never had that much weight to lose so never really had big losses but as I said, its never bothered me because I am neither competitive nor encouraged by 'winning' which probably brings the conversation back to the beginning of just doing this for yourself.
I am surprised though, that with all the technology and SW meetings all done electronically now that the % isn't worked out....

Ah yes, SOTW or MBNA as it should be called (Manky Brown 'Nana Award). I haven't made it any secret that I think SW are missing a trick here and need a very long due overhaul of the 'group' concept because the diet itself is brilliant. They've been trotting out the same old, 'clapping' and SOTW etc for donkey's years. I know there are the SW members who love their group but I think for some people it can be very demotivating and frustrating and that is one of the reasons why I don't think you should hear what everyone else has lost each week unless you choose to share it (especially if they are SOTW and had 10 vodkas and a chicken tikka masala at the weekend). I think it's just best to focus on what you are losing and as long as it's coming off then that's good.
