Do you use a food diary?

I'm just curious if people use the Food Diary & if so do you prefer writing it down or an online version?
Do you have a better loss when you write it down?

I definitely have better losses when I keep some sort of diary. I don't like the SW ones though - the spaces are too small and I like to record what I have for each meal, rather than just a list of foods, so I have a pretty notebook that I use. I've even stuck a chart in the front to track my progress (sad I know!!). At the moment I'm keeping a food diary on here as well, but that is a new thing.

I use a diary religiously. I use the SW sheets that you get given in class, tried using my own book once but I was rubbish at filling it in. Not sure why but I seem to be able to stick to filling in the sheets.

I hate the online SW diary, it's just too clunky and not user friendly at all. I wish SW would invest a bit more in their online technology. In this day and age of smartphones it should be a top priority for them to make a fully functional app that includes an easy to use diary, syn search and weight loss tracker. I used to use Myfitnesspal to log my food as this is such a great little app but I don't anymore as I get too focused on the calories. Why can't SW come up with something similar.

I think while the SW plan is great, the website is pretty poor overall - especially compared to WW and some others (e.g. Nutracheck, which has a very user friendly diary app). they are also quite behind the times in not having an official forum. This place is great, of course, but I'm surprised in this day and age SW doesn't offer, and moderate, their own as other diet clubs do.

I really need to start as I think it would give me a better idea of where I am going wrong if I have a bad week

I couldn't get used to the online diary thing at all. I like using the sheets you get but I always forget to ask for more & then have nothing. It's almost a case of, if I don't have a diary sheet then I don't write it. I haven't tried keeping my own notebook so maybe that's a possibility.

I tend to lose the sheets that's why I keep a notebook so I can always look back if I had a great week to see what I done differently

I'm writing it all down, I use the slimming world sheets, I find it useful to see the amount of free to superfree foods I'm having as well as keeping track of syns over the whole week, so I can feel happy if I've had a high syn day that I can balance it out over the other days.

I liked the idea our consultant gave us that if you keep the sheets, then if your losses slow down you can go back to a week that you had a really good loss and do it all again.

I am also quite surprised that the slimming world website and app seem quite behind the times and not very user friendly, apart from the syn checker the app is actually quite useless.

yeah I found that too, I do like myfitnesspal but that counts calories and with SW it doesn't work like that so I have my trusted notebook lol

Don't use the app. Just add a link to the mobile site to your iphone desktop. Its so so much better. It looks like and app and functions like one with a full diary and syn search and everything. The app is rubbish. The mobile site is much more user friendly!!

I will need to give that a go :)

They do give a good explanation on the site as to why they don't have an official SW forum.

I only kept a detailed food diary for the first few weeks, but now just jot down my syns.

I do the same only note my syns! I mad a chart which is stuck up, laminated it and just tick it off lol!

I'd be really interested to read that. I've had a look on the site but can't find it (they don't have a site search function!!) - could you point me in the right direction please?

I have a text buddy from my group which I use as a diary, I write down all of todays foods to her in a text and we confirm at the end of the day if stuck to what we said. I think that helps me most!

I used to do a diary every day but I seem to know what I can and can't have now days and keep a mental track of syns!

I do a food diary on here, I also add my planned syns. If I use more syns I write them down as I go along.

Sent from my iPhone using MiniMins

I'm into my 2nd week on SW now and have been using the SW food diary sheets and I've added a food diary on here. As with the SW diary it's not always clear what you have had with what and when!! So I use the SW diary to track my SF and F foods and of course my syns!!....and here to track meals/days easier

Thank you so much for this. If never been on the mobile site but it is so much better than the full site or the app. Only little niggle is when adding syns to the diary you can't change the default amounts (or at least I can't see how to). For example today I had 30ml semi skimmed milk in a cup of tea. Not part of my healthy extra so needs to be synned. On the online diary I can only add syns for 100ml. Does anyone know if you can change the amounts?

You cant change the amounts but you could work the syns out and add them manually I believe!
