I would really really appreciate some feedback on my food as I seem to have been stuck at 10st12lbs for absolutely MONTHS now and I really do not know what I am doing wrong. I even try never to eat after 6pm just for indigestion purposes but I also thought it might help. This is what I ate today:

40g Flahavan Porridge oats made with water at 9am.

Baked potato, mushy peas and Lidl oven baked cod in batter (2pm) for my dinner.

Ham, cheese, onion omelette (5.30pm) for supper.

Snacks - Atkins crispy chocolate snack bar (146cals) and 1 ginger nut biscuit. drinks - water, black tea/coffee.

I don't eat fruit as I am type 2 diabetic so my focus is on keeping sugar as low as I can ie natural from fruit and artificial from junk. The odd time, I will have a banana but I don't really like it. I try to eat fresh veg most days. Can anyone help me to boost or even get started my weightloss again?. Please!!!.

With diabetes there are specialised SW plans that your consultant would be able to go over with you. Trying to use the Extra Easy plan not only may not work for you but may be dangerous to your health. I would advise speakign to your consultant during your next weekly meeting.

Although I know nothing about diabetes.... and just looking at your food for the day....

The only superfree you have had all day is the onion in your omelette!!!

Is the cheese in the omelette a measured Hex a amount? If not, you don't seem to be having a Hex a?

Also, you don't appear to be tracking your syns? (Unless you know and just didn't list them)
Cod in batter (assuming that you ate the batter) 8 syns
Chocolate crispy snack bar 7 1/2 syns
Ginger nut biscuit (unknown brand) approx 2 1/2 syns

So, total syns for that day 18.

Do you go to group? If you do, have you shown your consultant your food diary for a week? What feedback did you get? As well as getting the diabetic info from them, maybe have a refresher of the new members talk.

Thank you for your reply. I do not go to meeting as I am always away on the road due to my third level course so am home different days every week so I just don't have the consistency to attend them. I know about the carbs issue. I am supposed to keep carbs relatively low but I don't really think I am doing this successfully.

Thanks for you reply, lonestictcher. I think that not going to class may be my problem. I have all the books from when I did attend so I may have to sit down and go through them properly.
I was shocked to see the amount of syns that I was using in what I thought was quite a healthy day. Veg and I have a big problem and I need to fit more in somewhere. Thanks for your advice.

You say you try to eat fresh vegetables on most days. But to do the plan properly, you should be having one-third of each meal as superfree. According to the list you give, there was no superfree at all, apart from the onion in the omelette.

You don't have to eat fruit at all if you don't want to (although as a diabetic you don't have to give up fruit altogether, just choose carefully) but you do need to eat vegetables.

I think you need to look more carefully at the carbohydrate content of some of your food, as this converts into sugar. If you don't already have it, a book called Carbs and Cals is excellent (you can get it from Amazon).

Mushy peas are higher in carbohydrates than ordinary peas (and neither of them are superfree). Add the jacket potato and the cod in batter, and the carbohydrates do add up. I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I am keeping the sugar levels down by ditching high-carbohydrate foods like potatoes, pasta, bread and biscuits. Hard, but necessary! I am having fruit, but small portions, and spread out during the day.

Thanks AnnaFarraday, I really am a carb monster!!. I tried to ditch potatoes, pasta and bread and what happened to me was that I just started bingeing as I was so sickened with all the stirfry veg and salad. Even the mere thoughts of salad and veg makes me green!. However, I know that there is a lot of evidence to suggest that lowering carb levels will definitely improve blood glucose levels. Its just doing it, that is the problem, lol!!. I will definitely, at the very least cut back on carbs and try to get my weight moving again. Thanks again.x

Oh, I know it's hard! I just love bread and that has been the hardest thing. But I am trying to avoid taking any medication and the doctor has given me a few months to see if I can manage just by modifying my diet. The Carbs and Cals book has been really helpful - I never worried about carbohydrates before, so it's a steep learning curve for me!

That book sounds really good!. I must have a look on amazon. I am in the same boat in that, I am not currently on any meds and just going by my 3 monthly HBA1c test. I did however have insulin dependent diabetes in my four pregnancies and of course I never listened to all the advice about getting my weight down. Hence, the type two diabetes!!. Thanks for the info on that book. I am just going to try to cut down on my carbs. Even if I can go carb free at 6pm when I have my tea, I will be happy as I have to have at least a potato/rice portion for my dinner at 2pm and cereal at breakfast, otherwise, I am the type that will severely binge and go off the rails. Best of luck to you and I admire your willpower with the carb demons!!
