What IS it about Slimming World?

I've been thinking on this lately. I have never experienced weightloss like this and by god have I tried them all. So is it the common sense approach? Is it actually down to the combinations you eat, so the food optimising they bang on about, is it naturally curbing my appetite? Is it the superfree food actually cutting my kcal intake? I know all diet plans work to kcal or fat deficit (or both) and that they achieve them in different ways but I seem to eat such big meals on SW and yet it still falls off.

Maybe be its a perfect storm of all of it. Not all of us eat the same, obviously the flexibility of SW is one of its selling points, yet we all, if we stick to plan, can experience amazing things.

What is it that YOU put your losses down to predominantly?

I think its the superfree for me. I never used to eat veg because I couldn't be bothered to make it so I am definitely cutting down on the high calorie foods in my main meal.

Whatever it is, it works. That is good enough for me

I agree with tinkerbell- I eat way more fruit than I used to. Fruit for breakfast/snacks and lots of veggies to fill up on.
I also think it helps that you dont feel like you're on a diet- its much less restrictive and you know you can have a treat and not be cheating! I find im not thinking about food every minute of the day like on other diets. The 5:2 was terrible for me, trying to eek out every last calorie, meticulously weighing every morsel and ingredient!

    Ooooo interesting!!
I'm absolutely shocked by sw tbh! Like you I've tried every diet under the sun and could never get below a certain weight and then I gave sw a go and voila I beat that weight plateau. I just wish that I'd tried it sooner!!

I think I put it down to cooking from scratch, fresh ingredients and filling meals. I know the plan inside out so don't write things down but I seem to have an in built diary in my head.

I also think that it helps that you don't have to 'add up' and you go through the day eg, calorie counting or ww would always have me constantly counting and then I'd be struggling to think of what to have later in the day for x amount of calories/points.

Weigh in tomorrow and I'm hoping to get my 1lb which gets me to target! 5 1/2 stone down and sw is my new best friend!! Haha! :-)

It's just the ultimate healthy eating plan. I was trying to narrow it down but there are so many things I've changed, from having healthy breakfasts instead of a Danish, to cutting down on cheese/pizza, to severely cutting back on alcohol, to upping the superfree (and I always ate a reasonable amount), to switching from chocolate and canned fruit to fresh fruit.

I think it works because it's simple, doesn't cut out food groups, and really raises your awareness of WHAT in your food is fattening. So actually a pasta veg bake is fine... til you load it with cream and cheese. A Danish might be fine... if that were your only syning for the day. A couple of tortilla wraps with dinner look like a reasonable amount of carbs to me... but are a LOT more fattening than a nice plate of pasta. It just stops you from kidding yourself that you're eating healthily because it puts healthy eating advice into a set of simple rules.

For me it's also made me think about what I actually love and want to treat myself with. Pizza was my favourite food, but I hardly miss it now. But I'd cry if I couldn't have chocolate and wine sometimes. I thought I'd struggle with the reduced cheese, but actually my palate has changed so 30g of Parmesan shaved onto a risotto is a lovely seasoning now and satisfies me.
Made it to target after nearly ten months on Slimming World and now working to maintain between 10st7 and 10st10, have a super healthy lifestyle, and be happy!

I think it's a combination of upping the amount of fruit and veg to hitherto unknown proportions, combined with low-fat, low sugar and higher fibre intake that really equates to a healthy and sustainable eating plan.

It's either that or magic...perhaps it's actually voodoo.

Maybe. Maybe I have a little plasticine model Sam in my cupboard that I'm pinching bits off of on a weekly basis. You will NEVER know....dum dum duuuuuum

The voodoo thing only works if you've given the model a piece of yourself though - like a little head full of your own hair, or an actual fingernail clipping or something, I learned this from watching the Witches of Eastwick obsessively as a young teenager.

You'd better be careful with that little Sam model - the rate you're going you'll end up just a little nub!

it just suits me - it makes me think about what i am putting in my mouth, dread to think the cals that were on my favourite sunday lunch - belly pork with a massive wedge of cracking, dauphinoise potatoes and even the veg was cauliflower cheese!

Grrrrrrrrr, this kind of question just messes with my head, I can't understand why or how it works!!!!!!!!!!!

I've changed from full fat yogurts to ff, less cheese, less bread (but perhaps 1 or 2 slices per day), no mayo or dressing really; before SW I ate healthy but would have far too much cheese & top it with full fat mayo, I do without now I can't stand that low fat stuff, yuk. I don't eat as many desserts as I used to & I think more about what I'm eating, and question if I really want it. I now save Christmas & Easter chocolate & put it into 5 syn bags, whereas before I'd eat it until it was gone

I had to make very few changes to my regular habits and lifestyle, and these changes, once I got used to them, were very easy. (I no longer cook with fat, oil or butter, completely cut out my few glasses of coke every night habit and increased my intake of fresh fruit).

Apart from that I have not had to adjust my life too much. I agree with nicolalouises in that it is the combination of several of the above posts, but for me, most especially it is what steph says about "I also think that it helps that you don't have to 'add up' and you go through the day eg, calorie counting or ww would always have me constantly counting and then I'd be struggling to think of what to have later in the day for x amount of calories/points. "

Or no, perhaps most especially, I absolutely LOVE the recipe books. I have always enjoyed cooking but somehow SW recipes have grabbed me like no other. I have had my reject dishes but the success rate far outweighs the failures and inspire me to keep trying new things.

The superfree foods are amazing and the key, I think. I can pretty much fill up on fruit and veg without any guilt at all. For me it works, because I don't ever feel starved or deprived on the plan, I know for a fact I start rebelling when I feel I deprive myself - still a big child
It's that, or voodoo, or plain and simple magic xx
