Has anyone switched from group to "dieting " at home and been successful ? I go it group but sometimes I feel a bit pressured and although this can be good and I have lost weight I sometimes feel I need a break as I feel there a weight / pressure above me ! Hope I don't sound too much of a mad women it's just I'd like the weight to be lifted off me mentally . So has anyone felt the same ? My problem is don't want to stop going then go from feeling under pressure to no control and be back where I started :( Decisions decisions has anyone cracked this and lost weight and maintained it on their own ? Thanks x

Hi- dilemmas indeed- it's a tough decision.
I think it depends on the person to be honest.
For me, I need class. So many times I have been backwards and forwards to different classes and it got to a point where I got embarrassed because I'd go back to a class and I was back where I started before I left.
I decided in November that I was going back to a class for the final time and never leaving!! I promised myself that if face this once and for all and never give up!
In the past, I'd plateau and get frustrated and leave or think that I was paying out for someone to tell me that if maintained weight. I saw it as a waste of money at the time.
The truth was, I couldn't do it alone as I didn't monitor myself properly and would only do something about a bit of a weight gain when my clothes started not to fit!
I'm hoping to get to target tomorrow and I will still continue to go to class when I'm there because I know that I need it. I admire anyone who can do it alone but for me personally I need the advice and support from a class to keep me on track!!
Good luck.x

There's a lot of people on here who do it from home, Mini's is a sort of group for us. I agree with the post above, it totally depends on the person, for me I don't need the accountability of group, but I've got a good support network here and at home. I'd say if you're worried it will make you slip, or you don't get enough support at home then keep going, but if you think you can cope then give it a shot. You can always come and ask for help on here if you feel like your control is slipping, or even go back if you change your mind!

When I have done SW previously I have always gone to a class but this time I am going am attempting to do it from home. This site seems amazing for hints, tips and advice so hopefully when the results start to show I'll have my weekly fee to put towards some new clothes :) Thanks to everyone so far that has posted replies to my threads its been a great help and even though I'm only on day three, i feel better already and feel very motivated and positive. :)

My group is closing in a few weeks, so I am thinking of trying it alone for a while. My plan is to book a couple of weeks hols on the last night of group, and see how I do for the fortnight. If I go totally off plan, I can pick up where I left off.

Have to say though, I thoroughly enjoy my group. If it wasn't closing, I'd be staying!

I'm going it alone at home and using this site for help ( so useful for ideas!) I find group hard with work but don't need the weigh ins as much. My biggest thing to keep me on track is a board to plan all my meals for the week and then records all my syns, helps me to make sure I don't 'cheat' been though I don't have to 'account' to anyone! I also buy the mag religiously to help keep up to date with new ideas. Like the others say, it does depend on you as a person though.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice have decided to stay at group for now as I also said I'd stick it out this time just remembered so thanks steph1212 for jogging my memory ! I've stopped and started so many times will see how I feel in a months time may also take a holiday and try on my own sounds like a good plan to me ! :)

Hi,I've never set foot inside a slimming world group,I went it alone and I've lost 2 stone 6lbs in a year (this is all I wanted to lose) I get loads of info on this site, love it,and for anything else I need to know eg syn values,I ask google.
Hit a brick wall in January but been cycling to work and back for the last 2 weeks and it's started up again :) just have to try and maintain now which is scarier than losing!

Hiya!

I'm the type of person who needs to have someone to push me to do my best - but I'm doing SW at home this time! At my local group I feel that I was paying to be weighed and sit around for an hour clapping results and I didn't really get anything from it. No recipes, no hints or tips and I felt I was wasting my time and money - But I do have my Mother on my back and supporting me so hopefully I can reach my goal of 3st weight loss!

Lennie08* makes a good point with the weekly fee! I didn't think of that so I'm going to start a little pot! :)

Good Luck on your journey!! xxx

Five weeks in now, 9lbs down and all done without going to a class. Very happy with my progress. Respect for this site soo much and all the lovely people on here that have helped answer my questions and queries and assisted me on my journey so far. Well done wish I could go it alone sometimes but I'm enjoy my group at the moment and have lost weigh although slowly . I really admire anyone who can do it on their own but like you said this site is fab for any questions you need answering we're one big family !

I tried but never stayed at it long enough so I'm back in group. It keeps me accountable, keeps me motivated.

Hiya, I'm having the same dilemma, I'm thinking of joining online rather than go to group. Not really liking the group sessions, there's that many in the class it seems to go on forever by the time the leader gets talking to everyone so I'm always starving as I've held off on dinner afterwards! Plus the discussion of what you loss/gained makes me feel on the spot and stressed which you think should spur me on but I think it makes me rebel! Think I'm going to give it a try by myself for a bit and if I'm getting nowhere I may try a different group!

I find groups like this are my "image therapy" you get the discussion, hints and tips like you would in group, not to mention support from other members, without spending the money x
