I am struggling to fill my plate with superfree foods mainly at lunch time as I have gone off salad. I have veg in the evening so thats ok but when I have lunch which could be supernoodles I don't have any superfree. Are baked beans superfree as I could have them with an omelette?

I love omelettes I fill them out with lots of tomato mushrooms onion etc! They do be massive and very filling

If ur havin supernoodles for lunch and dont want to add veg in why not eat a couple pieces of fruit First.
Then if u only need half the supernoodles before u feel full ur not missin out on ur superfree

I do this if im havin a mugshot for lunch. :)

I've been munching clementines/frozen cherries/grapes with my meals finding this really helps

Dosent have to be traditional veg every meal

When you say you have gone off salad, do you just mean the traditional lettuce, tomato, cucumber, etc.? Because you can use almost any vegetable as a salad.

One of my favourites at the moment is finely sliced button mushrooms with finely sliced fennel. Has to be wafer thin slices, or it doesn't really work.

I'm struggling a bit with the super free. Getting there though. Trying to think outside the box and adding fruit to my curry and having gammon and pineapple etc.

my consultant said on Tuesday when I joined that you don't need to eat fruit and veg as part of extra easy. I was thinking that can't be right surely?

No that's not right. It's an essential part of the plan!! Maybe they meant you could focus on one or t'other?

What about making a curry or a bolognese the night before packing it with veg and taking leftovers for lunch? The veg will be within the meal rather than you worrying about it being on the side of your plate.

Pasta filled with mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc

Chicken pizza - cut the chicken breast in half to make a butterfly shape top with tomato puree and then fill with topping of your choice, ham, pineapple, mushrooms, onions, peppers, sweetcorn cook for 20 mins then add grated healthy extra cheese over and place back in the oven until cheese melts.

Unless the consultant meant you don't need to have both fruit and veg but could have one or the other then this is very wrong! The 1/3 Superfree is essential for EE and recommended on the Red and Green plans too. However, SW does recognise that there are some meals when Superfree just doesn't fit, so if you fancy egg and chips or fish, chips and mushy peas then have them! Also, if you meal contains HExs then you don't have to add Superfree because the HEx are measured giving an inbuilt control.

If you are cooking the fruit you add to your curry or grilling the pineapple, and/or using tinned fruit, then technically it should be Synned. I put loads of veg into a curry - finely chopped onion, carrot and celery * are the base of many a meal and is barely noticeable! - and I would add Frylighted mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings to my gammon.

*(To save time, you can buy bags of frozen ready chopped veg - they're often labeled as bolognese mix or similar)

Nope, he made a massive point of how he doesn't eat fruit or veg and we don't have to either!

SW would be appalled as this does not chime with their healthy eating message! I'm sure you've seen the news these week that we should be eating more than 5 portions of fruit and veg daily and that the veg portions should be greater than the fruit.

Sory to wade in here, but I can only assume the consultant didn't make himself clear..and I'd suggest you speak to him to clarify asap...but superfree (fruit and non-starchy veg) are an essential part of the plan and, as other posters have said, you should aim for 1/3 if poss with/in each meal. Not just to bulk out your meal (and thereby reducing the energy/calorie intake) but also for vital vitamins etc. The superfree, along with the v.low fat and low sugar intake is the key to sw working xx

Whatever his personal views are about fruit and veg and irrespective of whether he successfully lost weight following HIS plan, you and the other people attending his group(s) are paying for the Slimming World plan. If he is not promoting the 1/3 Superfree 'rule' and encouraging you and showing you how to incorporate the Superfree into your meals so that it becomes a habit, then you are not getting the service you are paying for.

If he is making a 'big thing' of it then I would not be at all happy about him making money from something he does not truly believe in and I would look for another group.

Thank you for starting this thread, I've been wondering about superfree, and whether it counts if it is in the meal rather than on the side of the plate! I'd also question that there is no need for fruit and veg, even back in the red/green days (I know these do still exist, but I'm talking back when these were the main 2) it was highly recommended that you ate lots of superfree foods.
Another quick question (sorry to crash your thread, I don't want to start another though when this one exists :)), one poster mentioned eating fruit before your meal if you knew you wouldn't be getting enough superfree in. Can you eat fruit after, as a dessert, or is it better before?
