Joining class- what to expect?

Hi guys I'm joining my local slimming world class tomorrow- I feel like I have a good idea of how the plans works now thanks to this forum :) just a few questions if anyone could be kind enough to answer (sorry some are a bit stupid lol)

Firstly can you pay monthly? Do you pay to join (and how much is it)?
Does the consultant go through the plans with you on your first day?
When do you sort out a target weight? (I went to rosemary Conley before having baby and we never set a goal- So when my mum reached hers it wasn't acknowledged/ celebrated!)

Oh someone I know who goes mentioned in passing something about everyone bringing in something and then one person can win it? I wasn't sure what she meant and didn't have time to ask lol

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Lucy

I answered below:

Firstly can you pay monthly? Do you pay to join (and how much is it)? You pay weekly, or you can buy a 6-week or 12-week pass. I've never bought these, so can't remember how much they cost.
Does the consultant go through the plans with you on your first day? Yes- there is a New Member talk. Usually in a quiet corner of the room, the consultant will have a table set up, where he/she will go through the info with you. This happens when other members are getting weighed. Then the group starts, and you get to watch/listen to it. After group, you decide if you want to join up, pay and get weighed.
When do you sort out a target weight? (I went to rosemary Conley before having baby and we never set a goal- So when my mum reached hers it wasn't acknowledged/ celebrated!) You can pick your own target on day one, and this can be changed later if you need to. It has to be a minimum of 7lbs (I think), so you can't set a target of just a few pounds. You get awards for every half stone, Club 10 (when you've lost 10% of your start weight), and when you hit target you become a free member.

Oh someone I know who goes mentioned in passing something about everyone bringing in something and then one person can win it? I wasn't sure what she meant and didn't have time to ask lol You bring a piece of fruit to put into the SOTW (Slimmer of the Week) bowl, and whoever "wins" SOTW takes home the loot.

Thanks in advance :)

I tend to buy 12 weeks in one go; works out the same as paying for 10 classes so £49.50 - I think the 6 week passes are £24.75! x

Firstly can you pay monthly? Do you pay to join (and how much is it)?
Your first week, you pay a joining fee and that's it (either £10 or £15) after that you pay weekly £5, or you can pay for 6 weeks at once and get 1 week free, or pay for 12 weeks together and get 2 weeks free.
Does the consultant go through the plans with you on your first day?
When you first arrive you will egt a one-to-one session with your consultant who will walk you through the plans and give you all the info. This takes about 30 mins, then you will get to see the imagine therapy sessions, befiore getting yourself weighed in (weigh ins are done in secret)
When do you sort out a target weight? (I went to rosemary Conley before having baby and we never set a goal- So when my mum reached hers it wasn't acknowledged/ celebrated!)
You can set a target at any point, i'd advise waiting a couple of weeks, to see how comfortable you are with the plans and the speed of your weight loss.

Everyone is supposed to bring in a either a superfree or similar item, usually people bring fruit, yoghurts or Hi-Fi bars, with the resulting hamper going to the Slimmer Of The Week. It is not compulsory, so don't worry about it your first week.

check online also as there is some offer running at the moment for half price joining. my friend joined last week and only paid €9. might be sometihng similar in uk going on.

best of luck :)

Just one last word of caution/warning/info... As far as I am aware NO class takes credit/debit cards, so you'll either need to take cash or a cheque to pay!!!!

Thank you all so much, really helpful- I feel more prepared now! I had been toying with the idea of ww but with small kiddies and having looked at both plans I feel I can make sw more of a lifestyle change :)

Coughdrops what's Bella? X

bella is a magazine

Doh! Thank you- guessing that's the slimming world mag. I'll grab one today :)

Noooo Bella is a normal mag. Like Woman's Way or what have you. It normally has a story on the front involving (in no particular order)

one of the Loose Women (in marriage/booze/slimming crisis)
Holly Willoughby thinking that Christine Bleakly is out to get her
Lorraine Kelly (being her fab place)

I am probably showing my age...

Is there some kind of app or calculator to work out syns? Thanks x

yeah when you join you will get a PIN number and you can log on to get syns, use the syn calc etc. it's very good I have the app and very handy for out and about :)
