loosing weight to conceive

AmyAdele

its a long road
I wasn't sure where to post this So if its in the wrong place sorry ...

Im loosing weight to get pregnant .. We have been trying for 18 months now.

In December 4lbs off getting my club ten I fell pregnant but miscarried at 7 weeks.

Since then i couldn't get back on plan and have there for gained 6lb but re-joined last week and will get it all off and be back on track in no time.

I was just wondering if there are any success stories of people loosing weight and getting pregnant and how much you had to loose?

(I know everyone is different... just looking for some hope)

Hiya hun, never been in your situation but I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. A friend of mine was told she had to lose weight if she wanted to conceive. She joined SW and is now expecting her first child so it can be done! :)

I wish you all the best and remember that everyone on this site is here to support each other and we're only a message away if you feel like you need it

Xx

Not quite weight-related, but a story of not giving up hope.

Dh and I stopped using contraception 6 months after we met. I was 16, he was 18. We were young, in love and frankly crazy! A year later and nothing. I was told being 13st11lb at 5ft4 was my issue. I eventually also got diagnosed with underactive thyroid and pcos. I had no periods, then spells of irregular periods. We tried clomid and I had two very early m/c. My weight rose to mid 14s. I lost down to 12st7lb for iui but as soon as treatment started I ballooned back up and didn't respond. I fell pg naturally weighing 14st but had a m/c at 7 wks later that year. When I was 26 I had an op to fix my ovaries, but it didn't work. The following year I'd started trying to lose weight to try iui again, but a few pounds down I was pregnant again. I weighed 14st5lb. My beautiful miracle son who defied the odds of me actually getting pregnant after so long was born safe and well in March 2012, just over 12 years after we started TTC.

Miracles can happen. I never believed it'd happen to me. Chin up, and keep going xxx

I started slimming world in january last year and weighed 17st 7 i lost just over 3 stone and found out i was pregnant in the october i was already 14 weeks by then and didnt no i was pregnant as i didnt have periods any way lol. Morning,
I too have PCOS and was told that i had to lose weight before they would commence any fertility treatment. I didn't have periods and all of the blood tests i had prior to losing weight were showing no signs of ovulation. I went on to lose a stone on a VLCD so it happened very quickly then joined slimming world for a few weeks till i found out i was pregnant.
Dont b too disheartened as it doesn't always take a huge weight loss to kick start menstrual cycle. I conceived weighing around 13 stone after TTC for 3 years.
Fingers crossed all goes well for you an as previous posters have said perseverance is key. Keep your eye on the prize and hopefully all will fall into place.

From a medical standing, I was always told 10% of body weight off would make a massive difference to ovulation and pcos :)

Hi, I've got PCOS, been TTC for 5 years, was very big at first, but since losing 7 stone, my cycle has started to come back, not fallen on yet but I still have 2 stone to go before I can go back to the docs for clomid, here's hoping for my miracle. SW is working for me, so I'm sure it'll work for you! Good luck x

I am also losing weight to conceive and have PCOS - we have been trying for over 6 years and have finally been referred to a fertility clinic. They have carried out lots of tests on myself and hubby and are happy to put me on Chlomid once my BMI gets under 30 (they initially said 35 but then changed the goalpost to 30). I find SW Is the only diet that works well with my PCOS and I try to follow it whilst making sure my food choices are also relativing low GI.

I also had pcos and had been trying for a while,I joined Sw in May 09 and lost 3.5 stone by the august and found out I was pregnant just after.Ive kept it of and just had another little girl in October,so there is hope xxx

Hiya, just wanted to share...

I lost 5st, before falling pregnant with my lg, it was seemingly very easy. I always suspected my weight loss was what did it, but never had proof.

Following my gorgeous girl, I lost my way and am now at the same weight I was when I first joined sw.
8 months in and nothing. Nada. Not even a hint of something going on in there. I have a doc app tonight and we agreed I'd be sent for scans this time. In my heart, I think it's pcos. I have no periods. I'm not ovulating, nothing. I had a v.early mc 18 months ago.

It's damn hard, knowing it's your weight and all your own fault. I think, I had it when big and flooding it all and keeping it off got me pregnant (well, obviously not but you know what I mean!) ... I've accepted, though bitterly..that I won't be completing my family until I get this mess sorted.

I am so sorry for your losses.

I really hope we all get our babies xxx

P.s, sparkle, I am so pleased for you. Xx

Miscarriage what every woman needs to know by Lesley Regan is a really good book to read by anyone who has experienced a miscarriage. It kept me sane when I lost hope of having a second child.

Losing weight will only help things and also the kind of food you eat on SW will help... all that super free food has to do something positive to your insides (well I hope so anyway as this is what I keep telling myself when I'm eating carrots... yet again!)

Good luck with the weight loss and I really hope you have some positive news baby wise soon x

Hi hun. My husband and I had been trying for 3 years to conceive, I then joined slimming World online, lost 2 stone and fell pregnant. I firmly believe it was my weight preventing us from conceiving. I rejoined a sw group in September when my daughter was 4 months and have not looked back.
Wishing you all the best on your journey and have everything crossed for you falling pregnant and the patter of teeny feet.

Lou. Xxx

Hi AmyAdele,

I know how you feel...i started a similar thread when I joined, really looking for hope too. We've been trying for quite some time, unfortunately I'm a bit older now(just turned 41) so time is of the essence for me now. Had all the tests and everything at the fertility clinic and came back normal so in theory no reason why I should not conceive( I have regular periods/ovulation) - the only thing that has been there as a constant is my heavy weight (in varying amounts), so finally had to face facts and begin the journey of getting as much as I can off for once and for all. We will see what happens then, I would be ecstatic if I can conceive a much longed for miracle baby finally, but what is to be will be, and if not we would love to adopt. I have heard lots of stories of women of all ages who tried for a long time then finally managed to lose weight and suddenly fell pregnant so there is hope...good luck xx

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, and I wish you the very best of luck on your weight loss and TTC journey.

I've been very fortunate that in spite of being overweight I concieved fairly easily and now our family is complete (two sons and a step son). My older sister discovered that she had gone thorugh the early menopause after trying for a baby for a number of years. We are about to start round 2 of IVF so I can donate my eggs to her. We tried last summer but my follicles didn't grow enough and we had to abandon the cycle. The consultant advised losing weight and trying again (my youngest is 5 so he said that although my fertility was obviously fine 5 years ago at a heavier weight he said it would be better to lose some just so know it's not an issue). We'll be starting the meds again in July all being well so trying to lose some more weight before then xx

Thank you to everyone who replied to this post :)

I don`t have PCOS and ovulate every month :) So I am really hoping its the weight that`s stopping me I am nearly at my club 10 and I`m feeling really positive that loosing weight is going to make it happen :)

Thank Goodness for slimming world :D
