Question How to work out Syns?

    Hi guys

I joined SW last night and still trying to get to grips with everything.

Can anyone advise how to work out the Syn Value of something that is not in the book or on the app or website please?

If there is no free food in it then it is 1 syn to every 20 calories. If it does have free food in it and isn't on the site you can put in all the nutritional values and that it has free food in and it will work it out for you.

Basically if it's a food with no free food allowance, something like cake/crisps/chocolate it's 1 syn per 20 calories.

    Hiya
I believe there is a calculator on the website if you are a member though I am not so don't know how it works! I think its quite accurate though and takes into account free food content etc.
For treats/choc the general rule is 20cals=1syn....

    Hiya -
if you haven't found it yet, when you first log onto the site click on the 'My Weight Loss Tools' tab on the grey bar under the Slimming World logo. You will then find a light blue task bar directly under the grey bar - you can choose the 'Syn Tools' & then the 3rd choice is the Syn Calculator. Tick the box on whichever plan you want to search for & choose whether there's any free food allowance in the item you're looking - finally click 'next'.

Oh, I should say - don't choose a food group as a free food allowance if there's only a smidgeon of it in the product - it's got to have a fair amount of it - I believe it should be listed 1st, 2nd or 3rd on the ingredients listed on the pack.

    Hope this helps.
