Round in circles!!!

Hi there

First post on here. Doing SW from home for about 8 weeks and lost 4lbs so far but really should have lost more. My problem is that I'm super good all week then Saturday night comes round and it all goes out the window then I think ah well might as well go for it now and it continues until Monday! I eat so much junk food in that time that I'm spoiling all my good efforts. I would blame the wine but I'm the one drinking it so have to take the blame ?
Anyway just wondered if anyone has some good tips on how to stop this happening.

Thanks

Do you start eating junk once you've had a glass or two or wine?

If so how about making some low syn or syn free snacks to munch on throughout the night? I love peppers and carrots with SW humous or low syn dip. Chicken drumsticks (without the skin), Ryvita minis (one pack is your Hex B).

Yes normally but I usually settle down with my snacks and wine together planning to be good and stick to my syns then it goes wrong. That's a good idea though thanks about the syn free snacks. Think I need to be more organised!!

I have to say I struggle too when I've had a few glasses of wine, I plan to be good then it all goes out the window. For me, until I'm into plan for a few weeks, I've decided not to have any alcohol for this very reason but I understand that's not sustainable long term!

Glad it's not just me. I know I should just try not to have wine at home. It's so many syns too! I'm usually ok if I'm out as I don't snack. Just don't want to spend weeks going up and down. Enjoying SW though and I know it's not SW that's the problem as I'm enjoying the plan

If thats your danger time then you need to have a coping strategy in place before the weekend arrives. If you just keep hoping things will be different next time then it's not going to happen I'm afraid. You could save some syns for the weekend so you have a bit of leeway on what you can eat and drink, have sw friendly snacks around the house, fakeaways, a set number of drinks etc - depends what it is that's knocking you off plan x

Weekends are where I tend to go a bit off plan too. Lots of wine & yummy food on a Saturday night is undeniably lovely ;) I've found that by doing my best to limit my drinks, prepare/make a good fakeaway meal so you still think you're stuffing your face with naughty things and try to keep all the snacks in your house at that time as healthy and SW friendly as possible. It's tricky and sometimes you'll need to be very firm with yourself but it's good to know there's others that struggle a but at the weekend too! :) good luck!

If weekends are your weakness maybe you could change your weigh in day ? I do mine on a Saturday morning so that Saturday night I can go off plan and still have 6 days to catch up :)

I'm also doing it from home.

I was exactly the same as you until nine weeks ago. I'd be good all week and then open a bottle and the munchies would start. I don't know why but wine makes me binge eat and I would get through so much food in one evening. There is no magic answer but I just made the firm decision to join SW and stick to it. I still have my bottle of wine on a Friday evening but I make sure I have a good dinner and keep lots of free food near by such as, crabsticks, chicken drumsticks, grapes etc, it's working so far and I'm finding that apart from a few grapes I hardly touch anything. I have lost 16 pounds in 8 weeks, so it can be done, you just have to stay focused. I really look forward to my Friday drink now and even better, I feel in control.

Thanks all for your replies. I think planning is the key and just trying to have a bit more willpower. It's easy to go off the rails but I need to keep my end goal in sight when I feel tempted. Will try and have snacks ready for next weekend. Will be harder as have friends round but got to make a change as there's always an excuse! Saturday weigh in might work too as I'm currently a Thursday. Feeling a bit more determined so fingers crossed!!

This is what I have been doing in recent months!! I have been following the plan from home, sometimes as an online member sometimes just on my own but I haven't really got anywhere. Yes, I've lost weight, but I have also given into temptation far to often and with no one to answer to, I have just got back on plan again and so the cycle goes!
Its a great way of maintaining but I want to lose some weight first!!
2 weeks ago, I made the decision to join my old group again and for me, its the best thing I could have done! I really thought I was 'past' the stage of needing a group for weighing in but actually, I have found its been the thing that has been missing for me! It has really made me stop and think about what I am putting in my mouth, knowing that I am going to weighed by someone else.
Yesterday, as an example, we visited family and were taken out for a pub lunch. Lovely! Now, if I was just following the plan on my own, I would have had a starter, a main and a dessert and just got back on plan again today. But knowing I have weigh in today, I chose just to have a main meal, and my choice of meal was also different and fitted in more with SW...I chose a roast instead of fish and chips!! ;)
And do you know what? I thoroughly enjoyed it, didn't feel stuffed from over eating and felt great mentally, that I was able to make a good decision, for once!!! lol

Do you go to a group and if not, is it something you may consider?

On a positive note, You have still lost 4 lbs!!

Hi how are you doing at the moment?

I don't go to group as I'm too anxious but I am an online member so do it from home too. I get motivation from looking at old pictures of me, and trying on new clothes that I want to fit in to!

I like SW as I can still have my 'treats' using my syns, it can be a struggle to stick within the limit and not just blow it, hopefully it'll get easier for you. 4lbs is a great start!

Weekends have always been treat time since I was a child... Being weighed on a Monday help me to not be completely reckless and undo all the hard work and focus I have put in during the week. Don't get me wrong I like a glass of wine or two... But would much rather chew my syns and satisfy my stomach. I do miss a good glass of red!

good luck and try to find a low syn option for the things you crave.

Hi Im doing good again this week. Got back on track yesterday. I always start the week like this though and it ends badly (not every week though). I’ve been looking back through my food diaries at weeks I’ve had a loss to try and see what’s going wrong. I don’t really have syns during the week and blow them all at the weekend and im thinking this is the problem as although I don’t feel deprived during the week maybe im getting carried away when I do have syns as im missing having treats. Think ill start trying to spread them out more through the week. I would love to go to a group and I think that would help a lot but there’s not one near me. I have the books from when I went before but I’ve moved since then and the nearest group is a 20 min drive away. Don’t think id be any better doing it online either. I do see the weekends as treat time but I get a bit carried away but then i always feel angry at myself afterwards!! Thanks for your replies though I appreciate it and it’s good to see what everyone else does to avoid this. I am still pleased with my 4lb loss though
:)

I know the problems of the weekend, the only way I think it can happen is to have lots of yummy low syn snacks made and ready

If wine is making you binge, IMO the only real answer is to ditch the wine!!

Why not commit to say 2 weeks with no alcohol, stay on plan and see what weight loss you get.

I absolutelyyyyyy LOVE cocktails, but I just can't trust myself to have them at the moment, so keep them to a minimum (one night out in 4 weeks).
