Is it just me? I'm trying to find fat levels in turkey steaks etc but you can't read that info until you have opened the plastic tray! I've tried coaxing the label off but it usually tears...:(
I'm sure they didn't used to do this....

Waitrose Essential British Turkey Steaks are 2.1 per cent fat, according to their website.

If you want to check this while you are in the store, go to Customer Services and get them to look it up.

I am fairly sure that legally the nutritional information should be visible on the label - you could point that out to them!

Well, I am surprised! I honestly thought that nutritional labelling was compulsory but in fact it isn't. Only if the manufacturer is making specific health claims for the product is it compulsory to put the nutritional information on.

New legislation will come into force in December 2014 which will mean that nutritional labelling will be mandatory, but there are exceptions, one of them being "Unprocessed products that comprise a single ingredient or category of ingredients", which I assume would include the turkey steaks you are referring to.

So Waitrose aren't breaking any rules, but it's still jolly inconvenient to have the labelling where you can't read it until you get home!

That's actually the case with lots of meat I've seen in different supermarkets, drives me up the wall!
