Raffles in Group: consultants opinions greatly appreciated.

    Hi Everyone,

May I ask a couple of questions about raffles in group?

    A) what does that raffle go towards?
    B) are you obliged to take part in raffle?
    C) what are the "official" rules about raffle if there are any? As in, is it something SW actively promotes to consultants?

    Thanks

    Rozie.

Speaking as a non-consultant, as far as I am aware...

    1. The money raised in the raffle goes towards the following weeks raffle prize and the tea/coffee/cups/milk/juice that the consultant provides.

    2. You are DEFINITELY not obligated to purchase a raffle ticket.

    3. Not sure about the answer to this one. Having been to a few groups, all consultants seem to have a raffle. Originally (when online access needed a password (which changed weekly)) the raffle prize was connected with the password. (ie. if the password for that week was Orange, the raffle prize would be oranges, orange jelly, orange cordial, orange options etc)

Hi, SW does promote the raffle but consultants do not have to hold them. The raffle money can only be put towards the group as the op said - I used to be a consultant and tea, coffee and raffle prizes add up!

Funnily enough I won the raffle last night and brought home a large bag of goodies! I think of it as compensation for my measly half pound loss!
But yes, as already said, raffle money, as far as I've always been aware goes towards the free tea, coffee etc at group.

Our consultant does a lovely raffle each week - normally all the ingredients you need for a current recipe from the magazine or one of the latest SW books. Am sure it must add up to quite a bit each week. She also provides a full range of drinks: various flavoured & regular teas; coffee; hot chocolate; squash etc. At 50p for 5 raffle tickets I think it's a bargain! i've never heard it mentioned that the money goes towards the refreshments, but it makes sense and Im sure she only just covers her expenses. It's definitely a member's choice to opt in or out of the raffle at our group and you don't have to buy any tickets if you want to have a drink!

I'm a recently retired consultant - here are the "rules" - raffle is actually calked "the social fund" it is for refreshment provision, prizes for competitions ( flowers, certificates, sashes etc) and the raffle prize itself. The prize should be food optimising or body magic related. Each group should hold a raffle, unless in a venue which does not allow "gambling" e.g Salvation Army halls, Some church halls.

Tickets should be 10p each/50p a strip. I used to encourage mine to take part and used to tell them if they want decent tea and coffe and not cheap stuff then to dig deep!!!

Ours are 1 a strip but I have no problem with this. You dont have to buy! My winning bag last night was full of lovely food plus in our group we get fridge magnets, certificates etc...our consultant is very generous! I know some groups don't get these.
I can only hope there is some money left over too to treat the lovely peeps that help out with money taking and weighing!

Our consultant varies the prizes quite regularly. For the last two weeks the winner has had the choice of a free week or a particular recipe book!

I have been to several different groups and although they all had raffles, we were never made to feel any pressure to buy a ticket. Most people did, because it went towards the tea and coffee, and the next week's raffle. The raffle prizes at my current group are usually super free food: the last time I won I got a bag full of curly kale, leeks, carrots and red onions, which cut down my shopping bill that week!

What do you mean by that? My SW counsultant charges 50p a strip which I think is quite reasonable considering the raffle prize is very generous. This week it was about soups and there were some lovely ingredients in the basket. Buying a ticket is not compulsory, so I don't know what the issue is tbh?
