Unofficially Joining In With Slimming World

My friend and her Mum have just started it, and in 3 days she's lost 1 pound. I thought I might give it a go. I want lose around 4 stone overall. I think this diet might be the way, and I'm too poor to join properly haha.
What are you top tips? What foods have you found stave off the snacking instinct?

Top tips would be

Get the books as it'll be pretty impossible without them
Don't weigh more often than once a week (naughty friend)
Plan, plan and plan some more
Know what your danger times are and have a strategy for how you are going to cope with them sorted in advance
Have lots of variety in your foods
Don't let one bad day become a bad week - if you have a slip up just get right back on it
Don't get too tied up in knots about what the scales say every week - it's a lifetime thing so one week is neither here nor there
Nothing wrong with snacking - I eat every two or three hours

Yup as patchwork puss says, absolutely nothing wrong with snacking if you're hungry! Choose superfree fruit and veggies to snack on. You could also save your syns for some snacky things. Pombear crips are only 4-5 syns a pack and fredos are 5 syns each.

Definitely stock up on superfree foods you like. I find i'm much less tempted to snack on junk if I have something like strawberries in the kitchen instead of my normal junk. And also don't deprive yourself, I think you're more likely to slip up that way.

Good luck, i've been on SW just over a month now and I've found it's much easier after a few weeks as you get to know what kind of things you should be choosing x

Everything PP said!!

I would also start a food diary, it definitely helps me keep on track and I've got into the routine of posting it in the morning or night before and updating it throughout the day. It also allows others to suggest things you could try differently or change to get better results.

I would also have a nosey and subscribe to a few diaries as some people have fabulous meals and the inspiration is priceless :)

I would also reiterate what PP said - really try to not get into the habit of weighing yourself lots. I literally weigh myself once every week and that's it. A lot can change in a few hours, never mind a day or two and you really risk it sabotaging your efforts.

GOOD LUCK!! xxx

Hi
I agree with everything said above. But why don't you join (I joined last week and it was half price joining fee - I only paid a £10), and get all the books, let someone who knows what they talking about explain everything to you?

You don't have to go back... lol But I couldn't do this without the books.

Lx

I'm also doing it without joining the group, although I was a member for 3 years previously and have managed to get a hold of the food optimising book. Finding it pretty easy so far, and this forum is kinda like image therapy for me.

I too am now going it alone! I went to group for some 2.5 years and lost 3 stone but have spent the last 6 months yo yo ing - even though i am still going to group. Decided to give group up and go it alone for a while :)

Hey everyone :D Thanks for your words of encouragement and answers to my question. In reply to why I don't join the group, I don't have any money. Like at all! Often I'm a few pounds away from my overdraft limit :(

On the up side, according to my Wii Fit Plus, I've lost eight pounds since I last used it just over a month ago! I started this diet last week, and before that I was eating all sorts of rubbish. Not sure how accurate it is, but I'm pleased lol.

Well done on weight loss! My advice would be always follow the basic rules;
- 1/3 plate superfree
-three meals a day
- eat when hungry stop when satisfied
-have your healthy extras and measure them!
-always double check the syn value before eating (I've made this mistake waaaay too many times)

Find meals and snacks you enjoy to fall back on (my comfort sw friendly meals are burger in a bowl or sw chips)

Best of luck :)

Hi!!

I'm also going it alone! I'm on my second week now and last week I lost 3lbs!! :). Weigh in Saturday.

I lost 2 stone last year through cutting calories but I'm finding the last bit so hard to shift. I just keep falling into the eating rubbish trap.

So far i think iv been doing really well and being able to have the odd treat has made it so much easier!!

I'm mainly just looking for support and to make myself accountable. Just need to keep at it :)

If you usually have take aways you'll see you will save loads. Aldi is great i find. The super 6 fruit and veg are a life saver! have some green days and as your cutting down on meat, its an extra saving.
