Hi everyone, I need a bit of advice. I have made a spaghetti Bolognese and added loads of onion, mushrooms and tomatoes. These are all super free foods ( well, I think they are lol ), so do I still need to have a third of sf foods on my plate. Just can't imagine having a salad with my spaghetti bol. Thanks in advance for any help x

No. If you've added ENOUGH superfree foods to the spag bol, that'll be ok. You've added loads, so i'm sure that's fine!

We talked about this in class last night. Its no good adding maybe an onion, or a punnet of mushrooms to a curry to feed a family of 4... that means you are only getting a quarter of an onion and maybe four mushrooms - and obviously, that's not enough!!

And also, we talked about how much rice and pasta we have on our plates too. Just makes you think a little bit more about what you are eating, and not to get complacent. Easily done! lol

Spag bol is a great way to pack a load of veg in a meal. I found a recipe when I first started on here and have stuck with it I make the largest amount with loads of veg in it and then freeze it into portions so there is always a quick meal in the freezer if needed. If you don't feel you have enough free/superfree, you could have an extra portion on veg on the side and cut back on the pasta??

This is spot on.

The idea of having superfree is to use it to replace other food on your plate and reduce portion sizes. So by adding lots of veggies to your bolognese you would bulk it out so you eat less mince and pasta. It's not that you eat the same amount as you would usually and then serve out a portion of superfree on top of that as well.

Most of my meals are half superfree foods, I happily plonk out a salad, boiled or roast veggies with most of what I eat. Then dish out less of the free foods. I love salads with spag bol or try some roast peppers, tomatoes and courgettes maybe with a bit of dressing on. Yummy!
