Constipated?

Hiya guys, and before I continue, I'm extremely sorry for the nature of this post!

Been doing SW now for 5 months - absolutely loving it. I've always done either EE or SE days and my HEBs have usually been 35g porridge oats or Hifi bars.

I'm concerned about my bowel movements... I used to be SO regular before SW - at least once a day - and now that I've cut out bread I really feel bunged up.

This week for instance, I haven't been since Saturday (my WI day). I've had to take 2 Dulcolax last night to help me go - which I have to success, but I feel so groggy and unwell now its believable!

Do any of you have any advice or tips? I've seen others write up about how ScanBran has really helped them but I've tried it and I just don't like it.

I don't want to continue pumping my body with laxatives as it'll only cause problems in the long run. In terms of exercise I'm a gymaholic and a big walker so I don't think this is the issue either.

Just getting quite worried!
:faint2:

Are you drinking plenty of water? I know on other diets this has been a massive key for me.
But sorry i cant help much I only started Tuesday, but didnt wanna read and not reply!
Im sure someone else will come along with some words of wisdom.

Yeah its become my challenge whilst i've been on SW - ditch the diet carbonated drinks and drink more water! I've bought one of those Brita Fill and GO bottles and I'm drinking between 2-3 litres with it. Just such a struggle right now!

Hmmm, I would try mixing up your healthy extra B. If you have the book you can see there is such a huge selection!

Stewed rhubarb is amazing for getting things moving again and a very generous amount is a HExB... Maybe try having a different HExB every day for a week or two and see if that makes any difference?

- Museli
- Weetabix
- Various dried fruits (prunes are awesome for this too!)
- Various stewed fruits
- Selected tins/ready made soups
- Various cereal bars from different supermarkets/brands
- Various nuts
- Extra virgin olive oil

And so many more!! xxx

Thanks for this, my consultant has just said the same thing to me. Gonna try different HEB's and see if this will make a difference!

I feel like days somedays! I usually have bread as my hex b the whole time because I just love bread too much! But if I do feel it in myself I might have weetabix for a day or two and it usually helps plus I think the water helps the situation. I drink min 1.5 litres a day ;) x

I find if I have more than one egg and also have one egg two days in a row get really slow & smaller movements. Also try having fruit and yogurt instead or porridge with a sandwich for lunch occasionally to mix things up a bit? X

I'm so glad you started this thread! I've had exactly the same problem the last few months and it's driving me insane!
I'll take on board some of these tips- I don't drink anywhere near enough water!! Going to invest in one of those bottles and see if it helps! X

Don't assume that because you are doing one thing and something else happens, that the one causes the other.

Although the most likely explanation for constipation is diet, it's not the only possible explanation, and if it goes on and on it needs proper investigation.

I think i'm going to see how I get on in the next month or so - I'm really trying to do as many SE days as possible at the minute - determined to get the last 13lb off! Which means I'm eating plenty of fruit and veg during the day. I might make it a challenge for me to change my HEBs each day... at the moment i've become addicted to Overnight Oats and thats what i've been having each morning!

Thank you all for your help :) xx

Hi this happened to me last time i was on sw.I tried everything going and in the end one of the members who is a nurse advised me to take lactolose. You get it over the counter and its a tasteless syrup. It takes a couple of days to work but it does the job.I swaer by it now.Hope this helps.

I've had it too, it's awful so I totally empathise. I take supplement from H&B and upped my water its helped! The joy of a good poo!

Some good advice here. I can only add to this by recommending you try superspeed soup (meant to work like dynarod) and scan bran. :sign0131:

If only I liked scan bran! I'll try the super speed soup:)

Linseeds are meant to ve really good. Spinkle them over soups and salads. These are a healthy b too x

My son can get bunged up sometimes and he responds really well to prune juice, and we find he goes regularly if he has a small handful of raisins every day, so I'd definitely recommend dried fruit. Weetabix works for me and I also believe a little oil in your diet works too, so if you can 'afford' to use your HE B on weetabix, dried fruit or olive oil, it could help. x

I've just purchased 'Slimmatee' from Holland and Barrett, its a mild laxative herbal tea which they say you should drink each night before bedtime. I'm going to try this this week to see if makes me go more regular!

OMG this thread could have been written by me. Iv had terrible problems in the toilet dept for a couple of weeks, you would think all the fruit/salad I'm consuming I would be going every day but no! I too took 2 Dulcolax last night and today I feel so bloated and sore (my tummy not my bottom lol) I have a good result but I'm not taking those laxatives again. I bought the Colon Cleanse from Holland and Barrat but they did nothing :-( Maybe I need Dynarod as well ;-)

Buy Slimmatee from Holland and Barrett - it's very mild but it's working a complete treat for me so far!
