Help with lean mince

I shop at aldi but it seems none of the aldi mince is free on SW

where is the best place to stock up on cheap lean mince please?

I don't eat mince beef, but your post reminded me of the latest SW mag. On page 84 they've a small section about mince.

It explains that "Extra Lean" labelling is being phased out in EU and it's now all going to be called "Lean". It has to be 5% fat or less to count as free, fat content % should be on label.

Lidl / M&S / Sainsbury / Asda / Tesco / Morrisons have confirmed their lean mince fits in with the 5% rule, so looks like just Aldi is out for now!

I saw that none of the others are near me except tesco so wondered if any of the others like asda would be cheaper so i could stock the freezer..want to make chilli, spag bol amd the rissoles from the mag in bulk and freeze them in portions...

I use quorn mince or turkey mince for all of those. Turkey mince you can get in Aldi. I've a freezer full of quorn bol, so handy.

You may need to shop around quite carefully, because cheap and lean don't always go together. Cheaper meats tend to be fattier meats, as fat is cheap and quality lean meat is not.

With turkey Mince you can still fall foul of the 5% fat or less rule.
(yes I am aware of the pun there :p)

What I find is that if you struggle to find enough cheaper lean mince which qualifies, pad the meal or batch cook out with Quorn Mince.
It doesn't have to be 100% but if you keep it to be about 50/50 or even 75% Quorn and 25% meat, people tend not to notice because you still have the flavour from the actual meat in the dish and Quorn actually absorbs the flavours it is surrounded by (like Quark does).

Quorn mince is generally cheaper than 5% mince or any other to be honest, I find it regularly on offer for £1 for a packet, I think it comes in black tubs of 450g or 500g so you can cut costs down a bit too.

Don't tell your fussy eaters that you have incorporated Quorn into the meal and take note of whether they notice. If they don't, you have a strategy on saving money and reducing the hassle you have in finding enough lean mince.
Beware though, anyone with a mushroom allergy may be allergic to Quorn as it is made from a fungal matter, like mushrooms.

I shop at aldi for all my fruit and veg and then have a weekly delivery from asda for all my meat and branded food.
