Mindful eating anyone?

Hi

Have been reading up on the psychology of why I eat too much/am fat as I am fed up with having yo-yo dieted for 20+ years.

I have ranged between 8st 4 and 13st and I think that at nearly 41 it's time to sort it out for once and for all.

I am really interested in the CBT angle and mindfulness practice and wondered if anyone out there had any experience with either method and how it worked for them?

Thanks in advance for your input, it would be great to get a discussion going around this

Hmmmmmmmm interesting, I've only ever 'dieted' once in my life as I'd never needed to before.

I'm sure, not 100% but something similar was discussed about 12 mths ago, hmmm, can't remember the title of the thread or who posted it.

It's all very interesting why we eat and why do some people not enjoy eating & only eat cause they have too!!! what's that all about.

I think I'm thinking of the same one as you Michelle... was there something about Paul McKenna and his approach?!? Something about where you mindfully eat rather than just sticking to meal plans etc.

Can't remember the detail either but it's rang that particular bell! x

Lol, there is a Paul McKenna thread on here, but I seem to remember, (not enough obviously) somebody at uni was interested, oh dear, I feel I've not really been much help!!!!!!!!

This is something I'm interested in too. There's a thread in the other diet bits about intuitive eating which is a close relative.

Andy Puddicombe has a good book - the headspace diet as does Thich Nhath Hanh. Actually the sw magazine usually has something about it too.

I'm reading a book at the moment called "overcoming weight problems" it is based in a CBT approach and is written by a couple if doctors.
So far it is a Lot about planning your approach to diet and exercise and making small changes that are forever rather than the duration of the diet.
It's a bit boring but quite sensible advice.
I'm going to give it a go while on slimming world
Fingers crossed!

The Beck Diet Solution has lots of good CBT-type tips and is less anti-diet than Paul McKenna or Beyond Chocolate (though those can both be useful too).
