Syn allowance based on weight?

Forgive me if i have posted this in the wrong part of the forum, as it's not about syn values as such. I only go to my SW group to get weighed every few weeks now and therefore am not in the loop as much as I could be. I overheard the Consultant giving the new members talk while I was in the queue to be weighed and he said that he would tell each new member what their personal syn allowance would be once they had been weighed. Is this a new thing? I just assumed that the 5 - 15 syns per day rule hadn't changed and wasn't aware that members were given a specific syn allowance according to how much they weigh. Can anyone shed any light on it? Just curious.

My friends mum was told 10 a day but I go to a different group and she never told me what to have, the books still say 5-15 so I'm going with that. Usually closer to 15...

As much as i love the SW plan, I find that there is a real lack of consistency in what information is given out at different groups!

My consultant always says 5-15, but recommends newbies to start at the top end so they've got somewhere to go if losses start to slow down. I've never heard of a "personal syn allowance" (though I think men get more?)

Consultant are able to give people with a lot to lose more syns and always have been. But i agree there is no consistency at all which makes it confusing when people move groups or chat online :(

I joined almost 2 weeks ago and was given 10 syns per day!!

I don't know if there is any reason for this but I only list 1lb on my first week so maybe it was best I didn't have 15 lol :)

My friend who goes to group told me this today too, she was told she shouldn't really be having any more than 10 a day. So confusing as she is the same weight as me and I was told to have my full 15  I'm sticking to 15 as it's working well for me, just wish they'd be more consistent.

I'm on my 2nd go on SW. The first time I did it I was told between 5 and 15 syns. This time (different consultant) I was told that as a man I could have up to 25 syns a day, and the amount of weight I had to lose also gave me an extra 5, making a total of 30 syns per day! I've no idea what to believe!

Men get an extra 5-10 syns on top of the 5-15, if you have more than 16 stone to lose you will get more, this goes up in increments. The extra for weight is kept private, so you may not all be aware, it won't be discussed in group unless the member wishes to divulge.

10 per day is recommended if you have less than a stone to lose.

Whilst it is 5-15 syns, 10 is the guide and you will see this in the magazine too.

However, as an ex consultant, believe me when I say there is a lot to get in to the new member talk and I did sometimes forget the extras, as it was the exception rather than the rule, plus with the privacy I forgot by the time I weighed new members in!!!! (Members did always get a follow up text!)

Jaylou would you be able to clarify a little on the syn allowance I would be allowed hun. 27 year old female, 6ft 2, start weight of 31stone 5lb looking to lose 17st 5lb.

Obviously I know I should ask my consultant but I get the feeling I'm the largest person she's had. I'm not saying if I was allowed 20 or even 25 a day I would use them but it would be interesting to know if I could have that amount whether it would take away some of the guilt I feel for using syns.

I was told in one SW group I went to that I could have 20 syns a day, but my current consultant said that 5-15 should apply for everyone. To be honest, I'm happy with 15 syns a day, and the flexible syn system is a nice buffer if I go out for a meal, etc.

I was told 5-15 and then someone at group said as I'm under 10stone I should only be having 10 . I just flexisyn on 105 a week lol :D

I've always been told 5-15 and have never been given any hint as to having any extra.

Years ago I did have a friend who kept telling me I should only use 10 syns or less, as that's all she used, but she only needed to get about a stone off and I had about 10st to lose! Everyone seems to have their own interpretation of the plan don't they. :)

We were told to stick with 10 Max for the first week so that if we made any "mistakes" with things that weren't free etc we had a bit of leeway, until she'd seen our diaries and was sure we were doing it ok.

Hi,

when I started SW Last year I was given up to 20syns per week. I was 23st and the consultant told me I could have a little extra because I'm starting heavier, and therefore need a higher calorie consumption. I was to reduce them at a later date as I got smaller. I unfortunately stopped going after loosing 2.5st. What I will say is that having the extra did not slow my losses compared to anyone else. In fact if I had less syncs with the hope of loosing more, I often lost less.

Personally i'd say if you are told to start on ten and don't feel it's enough have 15. It's better to have those extra 5 syns than feel deprived, leading you to go off the rails. It's also worth knowing that those 5 syns are 100 cal of food. Don't know about everyone else but if I fancied (craved!) that bag of wotsits for 5 syns, couldn't have it, I'd then go and eat more than 100 cal of free food to take my mind off the craving!! Kind of defeats the object.

You can always reduce the syns at a later date. Am rejoining SW very soon. Love the plan. Hate the inconsistencies between consultants!

I have the same experience. Consultant told me that I should be having 20-25 syns a day.

Previous "go around" did help in getting past the Catholic sins/syns thing. From observing my previous group and my own experiences in that group, weeks when syns were fully used had higher weight loss than weeks when people denied themselves. I do not claim to understand why but am prepared to accept that the results people who stay on plan get encourage me to accept that "the plan works, use the plan."

OMMV.

Ian

When I started I was told I could have 20 syns a day, based on my weight and how much I had to lose. No explanation as such, I think the little card machine probably said so! I have generally stuck to below 15 syns a day, always have, usually about 12. Recently my Bmi went below 30 making me no longer obese and now just overweight. Weirdly since this happened my weight loss has slowed down and I've had two unexpected gains. Do you think it's time to reduce syns? I do need my treats to keep me going really, hoping this is just a blip and my losses pick up again once I'm over this stinking cold.

Moolumps,

I would not advise further reducing your Syns. The consultant gave you a number and you have been able to continue weight loss with the lower usage of syns. This fits the category of what do I do before I send my "gadget" back as defective. I would suggest that following the instructions 100% is a good bet before deciding that there is a problem. Last time I was doing SW there was a marked pattern among the people in my meeting that the best losses seemed to be with people eating AT LEAST their allowed syns.

My best weight loss was a week that I did a long weekend in Rome with my brother in the middle of. I ate like a famished Italian, drank large amounts of local house red wines, effectively two dinners a day with a Roman lunch. Walked EVERYWHERE and lost over half a stone.

Discuss what you plan to do with your consultant and try doing "EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN" first!

Just my 0.02 pence worth.
