First WI Tonight

Eeeek! I'm nervous! I tried SW alone for a few weeks but just couldn't stick to it as I had nobody to account to, so last week my Mum & I joined a local group. Tonight is my first weigh in....I'm nervous! Due to advise from my diabetic dietician I am only following red days and I have been 100% on plan so fingers crossed for a loss!

Is anyone else having their first WI tonight?

Good luck! I am sure you will be fine.

Can I ask you - I assume from what you say that your dietitician is recommending a low-carbohydrate diet. The reason I ask is that there is conflicting information out there, and my diabetic nurse (I have recently been diagnosed type 2, controlling with diet, no pills) says it is not necessary to go low-carb, although to me it makes sense. She says go for low GI carbs, space them out during the day, and there is no need to count them, but I am not sure about this.

Hi :)

I've recently been diagnosed as type 2 but I'm tablet controlled. I've been told not to cut out carbs completely but to reduce the amount right down, as well as reducing the amount of fruit I eat, focusing mainly on veg. I mentioned doing SW from home but that I was looking to join up properly so she had a look at the 3 plans & recommended the red days to start until I can get control of my sugar levels. I'm having to test my blood sugar levels 8 times a day (first thing, before & after each meal, & last thing at night) to see what is affecting them food wise & go from there. As I lose the weight and gain more control over the diabetes I will be able to start looking at EE and just have small portions of carbs instead. I agree about the conflicting information though- my Mum is type 2 diet controlled & was told to cut carbs completely.

I lost 8lb! So happy- actually asked her if her scales were right as I didn't think I'd get anything close to that!

Jaffa Cake- I let my consultant know when I joined her class & she gave me a leaflet about being on plan with diabetes but it completely contradicts what my dietician has advised so my consultant has told me to follow my dieticians advise for now and play around with the plan once I am in a position to go onto EE. Hopefully it won't take too long to get under control.

Fab loss, well done!

Well done on your loss. It is amazing how contradictory the advice given can be.
