Extra Easy Skeptical Newbie

Hi, Looking for a bit of advice, reassurance really. I'm off to my first meeting next Tuesday but I am very, very skeptical as to how this is going to work for me.

I have in the past lost 8stone. I have maintained this for almost 5years with the exception of a stone which I gained last year due to having a couple of operations & being out of exercise for 9months so I'm wanting this stone & maybe a bit more back off.

I have a friend on SW EE and she has filled me in on it. Now, the foods I eat on a day to day basis are all the free foods that are allowed. The only real difference is I don't use lean turkey mince.

I make a lot of my own smoothies using fruit spinach & almond milk.

Meals are salads, lots of veggies, chicken etc. I rarely eat carbs and I do a fair amount of exercise. Atleast 4days a week. I don't ever touch processed foods (except the odd treat of some crisps/chocolate/wine but not too often)

Obviously, I'm struggling to see how the EE plan is going to work for me when it's all the foods I eat already plus I'll be adding carbs & chocolate if I want aslong as I syn it & yet I'll supposedly lose weight.

The way I am doing it at the minute isn't working very well so thought it would give it a try.

So really, just looking for some advice & reassurance as to how this will work for me. Has anybody found it doesn't work? :)

Hello hun. I have never found that it doesn't work, although I often prefer the original or green plans separately and I find I lose best through a mixture. I have just rejoined and have never seen anyone not lose. The smoothies would be high in syns as you cannot blend or juice fruit and it still be free. Maybe a shakeup of what you eat will do you good. You don't have to add loads of carbs if you don't want, I dont often use bread for example. You could have sweet potatoes instead of white. SW offer a money back guarantee so you have nothing to lose, so give it a go and see. Well done on you amazing loss so far and maintaining :)

Yeah I was told that smoothies will have to be syned which I am fine with, don't mind using syns up on them.

I guess all I can do is try. I'm very eager to start to see if it works for me. I do shift work so can't get to a meeting the following week so I will have to wait 2 weeks for my first weigh in!

I think if you eat healthily generally, Slimming World won't be very different as it is essentially a healthy eating plan.

I think what it does offer, however, is a structure to follow.

I reached target in June and despite eating healthily over the summer with only a few treats here and there, I managed to gain 10.5lbs. You can so easily gain weight when you aren't following a structure and are having a little nibble of something here, a small class of wine there etc.

My advice would be to embrace the plan for the first few weeks and keep a food diary. Weigh everything properly, especially if you wish to continue having smoothies - properly weighing will give you the correct syn value.

Perhaps, even consider eating the fruit/drinking the almond milk rather than having a smoothie for one week and see if this makes a difference? The sugar and the reduction of fibre in the blended fruit might make more of a difference than you think!

Good luck and let us know how you get on :)
