Extra Easy First weigh in blues

Hi, I've been lurking on here for many years as I love reading everyone's tips and success stories.

I 're joined a local club just over a week ago and 3 days in I was informed at a hospital appointment I have polycystic ovaries and that if I need to have ivf in the future I need to get my bmi down 30 (currently at 43). I'm having an xray on my fallopian tubes to see if they are damaged and will find out the results and treatment in January (!!). Not only that but I turn 30 in February so with this in mind I'm am going at it 100% and if I do wobble at all I have promised myself that I will get back up and carry on trying.

Last Sunday I spent the WHOLE day going through all the cupboards, fridge + freezer throwing out any out of date rubbish and writing the suns value on anything else. I've written a list of all herbs/spices and stuck it to the cupboard so I can easily see what I've got. I've not got no chocolate in at all, this is a miracle for me as I love love the stuff!!!

Well on Thursday I had my first weigh in and I was the same weight :( the lady acted oddly and told me that it was strange. I just said oh well I'm on my monthly so maybe that's why but she seemed really off about it. It's really got me down a bit this week. I went home and had a pizza with chips sadly and yesterday I had 2 biscuits and 2 packets of quavers.

Does anyone know if the polycystic ovaries can cause problems losing weight or is it more mind over matter?
I'm trying my best today to stick 100% and I've now not had chocolate for 6 days which has been a killer with being on my monthly this week!!!

Sorry for the long post, I'm just feeling a bit disheartened today x

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) can make it harder to lose weight but losing weight is one of the few ways that you can actually help the symptoms of it. You can lose on SW with it though - I have PCOS and have lost 3st 8.5lbs this year (3st 5.5 since I started slimming world) While lots of people have a big first week loss some peoples bodies take a bit longer and the loss shows the next week - this could definitely be the case if it's TOTM so stick with the plan and hopefully you'll see it next week. Also if you are already dieting (just going by your stats) before you start slimming world you are less likely to have a big first week loss because a lot of that is just the big loss you get at the start of any diet and a lot of it will be water weight which you won't have if you were already doing a different plan before switching.

Wow, well done on the weight loss!! That's a great weight loss :)

Oh yes forgot I had stats on here, they might be a bit old as I am on and off sw/ww all the time.
However this is the biggest push I've ever given myself and I don't think I've ever wanted the weight loss so much before! I just don't want to look back at my 30th and see myself looking so big. Also going to center parcs for it so that's another reason.

I don't really understand pcos yet as the consultant just said I had it and that he wants the xray doing. There was no explanation of what it is or what I can do to help. Just told me to lose weight and that he'd discuss results in January.

Thank you for your advice x

Hi Kerry
The website patient.co.uk has really good information on PCOS. I work in the NHS so have quite a good knowledge about it, weight loss is the main thing you can do to help your fertility, so well done. There are medications that can improve fertility if your doctor thought you were suitable. With PCOS you tend to have more cycles that are "anovulatory" meaning you don't always release an egg that can be fertilised every month. Medicines can be used to stimulate ovulation.

There isn't a link with PCOS and Fallopian tube damage, so your consultant will be looking for other things that might effect your fertility as well as the PCOS with that.

Getting yourself in tip top physical shape prior to getting pregnant is a great idea. That's why I am here too!

Good luck with everything and don't be out off by your first week! You show that woman what you're made of next weight in!!

Michelle xx

Thank you Michelle :) I really appreciate your reply. I wish I'd asked questions looking back but at the time I wasn't sure what to ask haha.

I'm a member at a posh health club now too so trying to motivate myself for that but I always just end up swimming. I enjoy that much more than the actual gym haha!

Good luck on your journey too :) hopefully we will both be successful in no time :-D

I prepared a lasagna and shepherd's pie which is portioned up and frozen, today I'm making curry for the freezer so I really am going to show them I can do this!!

Xx

I love how motivated you are - it's really infectious! I'm a bit concerned about your consultant's reaction though, she should have been looking at ways to help! Are you keeping a food diary? This way she can look at it and find out what's going on (if anything is going on)? You could always keep one here if you can't be bothered with the paper ones! :)

Ha thanks! I really don't feel motivated tbh, but I'm trying to make my home sw friendly so there's no temptation at all!! :D
Yeah it's a man consultant and I wasn't really impressed when I left. I need to take things in before I think of questions so I didn't realise what I wanted to say til the next day! Roll on January!!

I'm not keeping a diary at the moment, I should really start one but I always forget to write in it. Oops! Maybe one on here would be better. Thank you :)
