Losing weight with minimal exercise - Anyone?

Hi!

I've been on Slimming World for almost five weeks now, I've found the plan fairly easy to follow food wise and I'm enjoying it. I've lost every week I've weighed in so far - Great!

The question I have is about exercise or Body Magic, has anyone lost a substantial amount of weight (My target is 4 stone) without majorly upping the exercise/activity?

I work almost full time and have three children and grumpy husband :jelous: and an ancient Jack Russell , my job is somewhat physical and involves standing all day long, by the time I get home, taxi the children around to after school activities and cook an evening meal, there is very little time left for anything else other than a quick walk with the dog, before starting all over again in preparation for the next day.

The weekends are pretty much the same with a good amount of housework/shopping thrown in, we do take the dog out for a long walk on the days we don't work.

I don't have the money to join a gym really, I'm doing an evening slimming world class and I do enjoy staying for the talk after I've been weighed.

I have tried to stick to the plan, I previously lost a lot of weight at Weight Watchers, however at the time I was spending an awful lot of time taking Zumba classes and jogging, At the time I was only working a few hours a day rather than the 35 hours I work each week now.

I'm quite happy to carry on as I am, and I guess there are some members that can't exercise due to health reasons, I guess it will take longer to lose weigh if your exercise is minimal, but If anyone can advise me I'd love to hear your experiences.

Thanks xx

Hi Little - it's definitely possible to lose the weight you want to without exercise. My first time on SW I lost 3 stone 7lbs in 6 months without any exercise at all. Mind you, I was VERY strict with my food and never went over my syns once. I think if you commit to sticking to plan 100% you'll get good losses. Mind you - with the amount you rush about in a day you're defintely burning off a few calories there I think so I wouldn't say you get no exercise at all! Plus your job is physical too which helps. Good luck!

I agree, you can definitely do it without 'exercise' and it sounds like you're on the go all the time. I've lost nearly 6 and half stone in just over a year without changing too much about my lifestyle (like you, I'm on the go ferrying kids about, gardening, chores at home etc and work full time in a school so am often on my feet alot). I've got another stone to lose to get to target and I'm sure if I'd spent time in the gym I would've probably already reached target but, for me, I feel that there's lots of things I have to do (work, shopping, cooking, kids etc) and so little 'spare' time that I know I'd resent it if I added organised exercise to that list and would've probably given up. I like to spend that spare time with my family and friends, relaxing and socialising. By not adding more pressure and doing it at my own pace (and allowing myself the odd weekend away and taking the scenic route!!) has meant I've kept at it. After all it's a healthy eating plan for life, not a short term diet...thats how I've got to look at it. I suppose it's a personal thing, make what decision feels right for you (at that time). But yes it definitely is possible. Good luck on your journey x

Wow! Congrats to both of you, amazing weight losses :flowers:

I have been losing weight, not the huge losses some people get, 2lb each week, I'm fine with that as long as its a loss.

My lifestyle seems very similar to yours Jo.b, I too would rather read with the children or spend time with family and friends than work out lol and honestly it there just isn't time at the moment. I'm sure that the last stone will be off in no time and you'll be so proud to be a target member!

It's great to hear that it can be done and has settled my mind somewhat, I now know that I'm on my way.

Exercise helps by toning you up and keeping you healthy but you lose weight by controlling what you put in your mouth. My friends personal trainer always says "you cant outrun a bad diet"

You should invest in a pedometer (they are really cheap) and you may surprise yourself at how many steps you actually do in a day. Exercise and body magic isnt only gyms and classes - a busy life oftens gives as much

I do go to a gym where I do classes and swimming but I dont find it makes a huge difference to weight loss

Me, me, me!!!

I've lost just over 5 stone now and for all I've talked about upping the exercise and had every intention to - bought a bike 2nd hand, been for the odd swim, had a tour of the local gym, I haven't actually done very much!!

We had a different consultant last week who said you follow the plan to lose weight and exercise to tone up, which is sort of where I am right now. I've lost a substantial amount of weight and just need to sort out the wobbly bits!! I have also had 3 children so don't hold much hope in the stomach department but do feel I will need to start doing something to tone up, from the start I've never wanted to get smaller than my skin... if you know what I mean. I do feel more inclined towards exercise now I am smaller and healthier, but as yet haven't taken that leap... the gym was lovely just not sure I can afford it :(

We tend to think of exercise nowadays as something additional to our everyday lives, but as you have a physical job where you stand all day, and a busy home life you are probably on the move more than you think and as long as you're moving, that should be enough! Years ago, i joined a gym but would drive to it. Now I just walk everywhere and get plenty of exercise that way.
