I am new to sw never tried it before because I don't get how u can eat unlimited potatoes and pasta and rice and other carbs and loose weight?? And ontop have your Syns like a chocolate bar a day? I am confused :( I have been doing it around a week Havnt had my first weigh in yet but I Havnt eaten anywhere near as much as it says as I don't trust it yet? I'm 5"5 , I was 14st 5lbs, I got down to 12st 12lbs through low carb eating. My goal is to now get to 10st 7lbs initially and perhaps alter. Feeling a little lost and apprehensive, help!!!

providing you do follow the plan, you should never be hungry on sw.

i can see that that you may be a little carbophobic, but the proof is in the low syn pudding. you only have to look around on here to see the sheer numbers of people who have lost loads of weight on sw to know that this a healthy way of eating that does actually work.

there is no deprivation of any food group ( unfortunately crisps and chocolate are not a food group, although when im queen i will see to it that that issue is addressed)

read all the literature, have a butchers around the site and be inspired. Enjoy!!!

Thankyou, yes I am a carbophobe iv just always been drilled into my head they're a no no!' Iv just had 2 weetabix with half banana milk n teaspoon honey. I feel guilty! I'm still getting used to whats a free food what's a healthy extra and whsts a syn, I'm sure il get the hang of it. I decided to give sw a go because I wanted a healthy plan that I could follow for life, the low carb ones are quick fixes you get the result but can't maintain it and I'm sick of yo yo Ing. I really hope this works for me. Although currently too scared to delve into having 10 Syns a day! Il keep u updated after weigh in.... Thanks!

:)

why only half the banana!!?? munch it all!! lol

please dont avoid your syns. even if you only use them for a splodge of ketchup or a scrummy hot chocolate in front of eastenders, do use them as they add to that feeling of non-deprivation.

please do keep chatting and keep us informed of your progress, whether you lose or gain around here, you are among friends.

I didn't believe it either, how can you lose weight and still eat potatoes, pasts and rice??
Three weeks in now and I've lost 6.6kgs.
I do notice more belly rumbling than I did before but just have some syn free fruit or yoghurt.

The most common thing I hear when I tell friends/family about sw is no way, you can't eat unlimited pasta/potatoes etc and still lose weight.
I suppose in a way you can't- as you must follow the golden rules of 1/3 super free at each meal and eat only when hungry/stop when full.
But in essence, you never need to be hungry and carbs are our friends :D
The plan does work if you stick to it (which includes syns!) but I understand your struggle to trust it, I was the same at first, but here I am nearly 2st lighter and still loving food!
Good luck x

My advice is to "forget" everything you have been taught previously about dieting. I have been a low carb dieter, a weight watcher, a Cambridge dieter, the list goes on.

When I started SW I forgot everything I had been told in each of them diets and pretended that SW was the first and only diet I had ever been on and put my 100% trust in it. Its not "unlimited" potatoes etc. Its eating when you are hungry to fill you up. Not stuffing yourself silly. Listen to your body and wen you are hungry each food from the free list until you are full. Its that simple. Good luck.

Eat until you're full.

Make sure at least 1/3 of your plate is full of SF.

15 syns a day.

You can't go wrong.

I've lost 5 stones doing SW now.

I understand your 'fear' of carbs. I also have followed low carb diets, very successfully in the past but what you must remember is that each diet works on its own merits.
Years ago, before I ever heard of 'low carb', I successfully lost weight by following SW green plan ( I was a veggie back then!). So despite what I now know about carbs, you can lose weight eating them! I did it!!
I just try to limit them these days, I don't go without because I actually love them but I know I don't lose weight very well if I eat too many. Now, that may be down to my dieting history, my age, lack of exercise or whatever, I don't know, but I do know that through trial and error, I get better losses with more protein and veg but as I said, I still have carbs too. Its about finding out what works for you as an individual.

What you may need to bear in mind if you are coming from a low carb plan to SW is that it may take a couple of weeks for your body to adjust, ie gain of water weight...which I'm sure as a low carber, you know all about!! lol

I'm eating more than ever now and still losing weight (although I cheat a fair bit so my losses are slower than most, but I can live with that). I also found it really hard to believe but it does work! Good luck.

It is a bit of a struggle to believe that it work but it does. many, many years ago, I lost two stone on SW, over the years, through laziness and poor diet, I have put on several stones too many. After great success with the Dukan diet, initially losing nearly three stone, I found it souo destroying not to be able to eat 'normal' food, ended up cheating and giving up so the weight (nearly all of it) returned. I am now on SW which, although not the rapid weight loss of Dukan, is far healthier and, more importantly, is maintainable. Good luck on the plan, use this forum for inspiration and believe in the plan and yourself!

You have had some great advice here. Trust the plan, eat till you're full and have the full syn allowance. Some time ago my consultant said in group "Free food does not mean eating till you want to throw up!" . I have always remembered that and although I still eat potatoes, rice and pasta, I do try to be "mindful" of what I am eating and when I feel full. I lost five stone to get to target - if you stick to the plan, it will work!

Another reason not to limit yourself too much to start with is that it leaves you nowhere to go later on. You may well find that as you get nearer to the weight you want to be your losses slow down: that is the time to think about cutting syns slightly and perhaps having smaller portions. Good luck!

My mum was like you, couldn't understand why I was eating potatoes, chocolate, crisps ect on a 'diet'. I told her to give SW a go even just for 1 week to prove it can be done, 6 weeks later she's lost almost a stone and she is loving it! She still can't believe it but it does work.. hard to believe I know but you have to have faith :) x

Some great advice here - especially about forgetting what you think you know about 'diets'. I guess all plans work if you stick to them - the key is finding one that you can stick to long term and SW provides that.

Honestly trust the plan. A couple of weeks ago I ate potatoes for a whole week (sw chips) and I thought I couldn't possibly lose weight and I lost 5lbs so eat until you are full and you will lose weight, feel great and you will LOVE it! If you don't eat enough your body goes into crisis mode and stores fat and water and you gain weight so eat enough to fill you no more and if you feel peckish between meals, have fruit or something free and you will amaze yourself :)
