How do you plan to cope with the Christmas period?

SerenityValley

Surgically happy.
Hi,

I once lost an entire Xmas to lighter life. It was a most miserable day. So, I decided I would never put myself through any major restrictions again - it leads me to have issues further down the line.

now, I intend not going insane but I've decided that I will have to be off plan from Xmas eve to Boxing Day. It won't be unrestricted but in the main, I'll be allowing myself to do what I want. I want to find somewhere in between being on plan and binging. I wouldn't even consider trying to go for it being a flexible syns day.

so, to mitigate things, I've planned ahead.

on plan from now till the 22nd.
fasting day on the 23rd (as per 5:2).
off plan 24th to 26th.
on plan 27th and 28th.
fasting day 29th.
on plan 30th.
off plan 31st/1st.
on plan from the 2nd until Valentines day.

having done 5:2 and having also at one point lost 11st on lighter life, I can fast easily enough to ensure that whatever happens I don't gain too much.

how is everyone else planning to deal with it?

Andy

I want to stay on plan for Christmas.

Have a couple meals out arranged which I will have to flexi syn but will make smart choices from the menus. Then straight back on plan. So that week will be 19 meals on plan and 2 flexi synned.

I want to thoroughly enjoy Christmas and have no damage to clean up in January. :)

I haven't decided yet. I'm definitely going to run on Christmas Day to help mitigate it! Otherwise I'm not sure.

I'm at my mums and am definitely not going to be on plan, but I want some rules in place to stop it being a full on binge.

I'm just going to allow myself extra syns for treats / sauces and stay on plan for the rest. On Christmas eve, Christmas day, boxing day and new years day (family visiting and don't go out new years eve - also pregnant so no alcohol) I am going to have up to 35 syns each day. I'm not going to cut back on other days (I tend to binge a bit if I cut back on other days) but will mark them off each day and make sure it's no more than 35. I'm going to use the syns on things like Yorkshire puddings / gravy with Christmas dinner (plus lots of super free) and some chocolate treats. Maybe I will have a bit of a gain doing this, but it stops me going totally mad and eating off plan for two weeks and I don't feel deprived as will still be eating same as everyone else with some treats.

I'm eating what I like Christmas Day. I'mworking Christmas Eve and Boxing Day so shouldn't be a week long feast like last year

I'll be eating what I like from Xmas eve to Boxing day, but the roasties will be cooked with Frylite, I have no sugar drinks anyway (not much of an alcohol drinker) and skimmed milk and cereal for breakfast so not as bad as it could be x

I'll try & stay on plan as much as possible, I always count my syns so will continue to do so over the Christmas period. I tend not to go too mad as it takes me forever to loose the extra lbs gained.

At some point I'll put my chocolate into 5 syn bags & then treat myself each day to a bag or two.

I will be having a mince pie but probably have it with sweetened quark instead of cream.

We are going to be in Portugal from the 23rd to the 30th so my plan is to try and eat lots of healthy fish and veg when I can and not go overboard with the drink. We are going to a pub run by Expats for Christmas lunch and I am just going to do what I want on that day. When we get back it will be straight back to plan and group in the hopes that any damage will be quickly reversed.

I wear stretchy leggings and gain 10happy lbs then try to lose yhem in jan.....choc and champagne for a week whoop whoop

I have decided to create a menu that is lush and on plan - it's all my faves done SW style going to be stuffed and eating like the queen totally looking forward to turkey leftovers to experiment with too hehe.

This will be my first Christmas on SW so I'm not sure how it's going to be. I'm aiming to stick to plan apart from Christmas Day/Boxing Day and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day, when I'll stay as close to plan as possible without stressing over it. Hopefully there won't be too much damage on the scales afterwards!

Trying to go for everything in moderation and stick to the plan as much as possible. I'm going to make swaps so I don't feel like I'm missing out e.g. the mini mince pies are only 80 cals (so 4 syns?) instead of a normal sized one that is 13 syns! They are only one bite really but I eat them bit by bit to savour the taste lol!

I will also up the exercise in the time off work. Aiming to STS for the two weeks over Christmas/New Year.

I am not a picker so should be able to stay pretty much on plan.... Breakfast will be oats (HEA & HEB) Christmas dinner will be free meat, SW roast potatoes and parsnips with lots of superfree veg and syn free gravy. Snacks will be syn free and I shall flexisyn for alcohol.

I'm going to try and stay on plan as much as possible, will have a few treats , but will try not to go overboard!
I don't want to have to lose pounds i've already lost! (well not many if poss)

Im being a bit naughty from the looks of this thread cos from crimbo eve to the 27 of dec im having what i want as if i restrict that is when i am most likely to binge where as if i say well its only once a year welcome the gain and move past it im less likely to binge. Dont get me wrong im not goin to wake up and eat chocolate all day but the old piece in the evening wont be to bad. Also some SW things are just now part of everyday for me now ie dont eat fat off meat, sweetner not sugar etc. Only rule is that i stop eating when full no matter how nice it tastes! :)

Sounds a great and healthy atitude to have I think you will do well! That's a big achievement to stop when full in my opinion x x

My OH does all the cooking a will not be making a SW friendly Christmas dinner. To be fair he does cook all SW the rest of the time so I really don't mind for one day. I think I'll have a SW friendly grill up in the morning - bacon, egg, mushrooms, tinned toms and HEXB toast. Hopefully this will fill me till lunch time and keep me from dipping into the chocs!
My parents are coming round and bringing dessert and some nibbles for later on so I will be indulging but like others have said I'm going to only eat till I'm full not stuffed and not eat just cause it there!

I only went back to classes 2 weeks ago to keep a reign on things, if I'd have waited till after xmas to join I know I would have stuffed my face for the full 2 weeks!

It's going to be a struggle I think - I'm going to stay with my aunt and uncle and granny in their hotel over Christmas and they aren't known for their diet friendly dinners! Plus they have a bar so trying not to drink too much will be tricky. But I am going to try my hardest to stay on plan and stick with it until the 23rd. I think a few days off will be fine as long as I'm not ridiculous and eating mince pies every 5 mins.
