Am I going mad?

The other day there was a thread about potato and rice flour, I think it was in the syns section but I can't be sure. I read the thread, clicked the back button to return to the list of threads and the potato/rice flour thread had vanished, even though I'd just read it! Now I can't find it anywhere and when I use the site search, it brings up the thread but when I click on it I get the "you must be a new user" type screen thingy. Can anyone enlighten me as to what's happening?
