Giving up online subscription...

I did a 3 month subscription and have lost 29lbs in that time. I have lost every week :). It is up for renewal on Monday and wondering whether I should go it alone. I have another 17lbs to lose.

I do think it is expensive for what it is, but it has worked for me so worth it so far. I like filling in the online food diary and using Syns online. I go on in the morning before work for motivation for the day, and also in the evening to complete the food diary.

Anyone any experience/advice?

I have tried just 'cutting down' on my own before and it has never worked long term - I think I have always been too strict then caved in. I do feel that I have a good grasp of the SW plan now though so should be able to sustain it? Just a bit scared I won't!

Why don't you try going it alone for a couple of weeks and see how you do? Like a trial period. And then if you start to see a decrease in your losses, and you think that's the problem, you can sign back up.

I use these message boards for motivation in a morning, so that could replace the online subscription.

I did this, but I found I reallyyyy missed the syns online tool - the ease of being able to just know straight away what syn is in something, and it did lead me to thinking 'oh i'm sure it won't be much', then when i have time to search on here or whatever, it's been a lot! I guess it depends how you use it and how well you know your syns etc. Like the poster above said you can only try and if it doesn't work re-start it again! I don't know how long they keep all your data though? xxx

Just found it, it's as follows:

£140 for a year - save £100

£80 for 6 months - save £40

£45 for 3 months - save £15

Hope that helps :)

Thank you, and thank you everyone for the replies! I'm still really torn! I'm always indecisive!

i think you should re-read your original post, it looks to me like you have already talked yourself into renewing.;)

Green eyed monster is right to be fair. If it's just a money thing, ask yourself if your weight and health are more important than money. That's how I see it because I do find I spend more on food than I did previously, and obviously on my subscription itself, but it'll be worth it in the long run.

I find with SW that my spending is more controlled because I plan my meals more, before I would of looked in the fridge and went "nothing for dinner" and order a take away or head to the shop and buy something quick and easy for the dinner i.e. pizza. So for me its a no brainer lol and my daughter has just turned 13 and I've discovered that she has went over her data allowance on her mobile by £45 so any saving is good for me at the moment!!!!!

The only reason I'm spending more is because I'm not organised enough to take lunch to work haha. So whereas before I'd grab a sandwich or a Greggs for a couple of quid, I'm now going into M&S and spending 5/6 quid. But like I say, it's worth it when you get on the scales and see the numbers falling every week!

Be careful with the online subscription, if you do decide to renew. If you don't do it in time, they automatically renew it for you, for one month and it works out more expensive, than if you'd renewed it yourself in good time. I found out the hard way! :S

I was an online member for about a year and a half, went it alone for 4/5 months using this website but struggled a bit so joined a group to lose my last 10lbs or so - so glad I did 'cause now I can go for free and get the benefits of group. Just worth thinking about as when you hit target online you still have to pay :)

Lots of good advice! I have decided to go it alone. I have set up a spread sheet for syns, HEXs etc and so far so good! If I start to waiver I will join again online or join a group!

3lb off this week so going well so far without the subscription!

Im in New Zealand and cant go to any classes. Im not sure whether to join online either. Though I do the old version of red and green days which my friend taught me, and I I lost a stone before xmas with swimming 5 times a week. Though I sometimes wasn't sure if it was the diet making me loose the weight or the exercise.

Can anyone recommend which one is better or easier to use? New or old version?
Ill join online if people seem to prefer the new way. Though I do realise its each to their own preference.

I don't want a diet where you have to over think, like weight watchers and calorie counting, it gets too deep when cooking every meal.

I'm in Australia and undecided whether to sign up online, my daughter did it in the UK so I've all the information but it is expensive especially with the falling Aussie dollar, interested to hear what others think.

I'm hoping this website will make up for not going to a class and having group support.

This web-site is amazing for info, Syns, recipes, advice, friendship ....... Need I go on? :) In answer to Kiwisam's query, I personally prefer the Extra Easy way of doing SW because it's so much more flexible than the old Red and Green. Haven't tried the brand new SP Extra Easy because several people have mentioned it hasn't made any difference to doing it the 'normal' EE way. Others have said it's been good for them but, for now, I'm sticking with what I know and enjoy the best - Extra Easy. :)

I am an on-line member but, to be honest, I only really ever look on it for Syn values and to record my weekly weight. Quite an expensive Syn finder! Usually, if you ask on here, someone will know the Syn value of a food item anyway. I tend to keep re-subscribing though because I do a recipe thread on here and would hate to give people the wrong Syn value info.

Sorry to have waffled on but hope you can pick some useful info out of what I've said! :D Whatever you both choose to do, I hope it's successful for you.

Kathy xx
