Can anyone help me understand how slimming world works I have about 3-4 stone to lose but I cant afford classes or subscriptions :(

Hi Rach, do you have any copies of the books? I joined a class and went for the first week only so that I could get the starter pack and buy the food directory and a couple of recipe books and haven't been back since as I begrudge paying the weekly fee. I think it is quite pricey and would rather spend that money on ingredients for a meal.
Basically though, your daily food is split into categories of free or super free food (fruit, veg, some very low fat dairy, eggs, meat, fish, poultry, rice, pasta)
healthy extra a, which is things like milk and cheese (one choice daily if on the Extra easy plan)
healthy extra b' which is cereal, bread Ryvita things, cereal bars, cooked, dried or canned fruit, some brands of tinned soups and nuts and seeds. (One choice daily if on the Extra easy plan)
As well as all of these foods, you need to fill your place on each meal with 1/3 super free food. So, if you were having beef chilli and rice, you'd serve it with a big salad unless you'd packed the chilli full of extra veg. or if you had a salmon fillet with new potatoes, you'd fill your plate with green beans, carrots, whatever veg you like.
Have a real good look around this forum because there are so many experts on here who have been doing SW for a long time with great success. You'll also find thousands of recipes too. Everyone is really friendly and knowledgeable and you don't normally have to wait very long for a friendly reply to any query you might have posted.
Good luck!

There is a voucher available in woman's own at the moment for free membership. So it would just cost you 4.95 a week - so even if you just went along to the first week, you'd get the up to date literature and a new member talk to explain it x

thanks everyone. Does anyone know the cost of the books and if you do it online do you get information on the plan that you would get from the books?

The food directory is £7.50 that's an absolute must have if you are doing it on your own, it lists all the syns of any branded foods...you'll need this because without being a paying member of slimming word you won't have access to the syns calculator. I think the free food book that also lists the healthy extras is round about £2.50
Not sure about the recipe books as i always get the recipes from the internet or minimins
Good luck on your journey xx
