What is Hot Smoked Salmon?

Hi folks,

I want to make the hot smoked salmon pasta in batch myself rather than buying it (too expensive for me!).

I eat smoked salmon like it's going out of fashion, but it's the "hot" bit I'm confused about. I don't ever remember seeing it but where else can it be apart from the smoked fish section?!

Do I just need to open my eyes?

Thanks, folks.xx

It's in the fish section near the normal smoked salmon - just a cooked version so it's all flaky and yummy x

It is smoked at a higher temperature than ordinary smoked salmon, so it's texture is a bit more like ordinary cooked salmon, but with a slightly smoked taste. It is delicious.

You can usually buy it in the smoked fish section, and either in whole pieces or flaked smaller pieces for sandwiches - if you are going to flake it anyway this is often (but not always - do check) slightly cheaper.

If you want a more detailed explanation of the differences between cold smoking and hot smoking - have a look here:

I prefer hot smoked salmon to normal smoked salmon :)
