Green Days Is it worth restarting group as a veggie with new plan?

Hi all

I've done sw in the past and lost some, but now I'm bigger than ever and need to do it again

I'm a veggie and always used green before, I hear they've changed the plan to be more geared towards meat eaters. Sounds like they're also trying to restrict the carb intake. The being allowed carbs was the thing which made sw work for me and I don't want to do this at all. I hear they're phasing out support for green, so am I better to just do this myself using my old books and forums like this one?

What are other veggies experiences with the new plan?

Wish they wouldn't keep treating us like lepers and only focusing on meat eaters! I remember how annoying I used to find it at group that we were just generally ignored!

As far as I am aware the plans are Extra Easy - which is just about any food goes on this plan - so suitable to you. And SP days - which are 'speed protein' days if you want a quick boost to your losses every now and again. Meat is not the only protein as you know there are nuts, pulses, veg proteins, quinoa, lentils, seeds, dairy, cheese etc All of which are acceptable on both plans. Vegetarians/Vegans aren't excluded at all.

I can't eat gluten (bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, cereals, wheat, rye, barley, gravy mix, most sauces etc) and the plan still fits perfectly. I don't feel like a leper.

I definitely wouldn't feel excluded in anyway... like anything, it is what you are willing to make of it. Good luck with your weight loss plan. XX

I agree ^^^^

The emphasis for SW is to eat protein, carbs & speed food, there is so much food which is protein, quorn for example, it's not just for meat eaters. I eat meat, but not all the time, I like it on odd days & will mostly have 'green' days. I don't feel like a leper or as though I'm missing out. We have a vegan at our group & she is made to feel welcome & we all help her with the plan.

It's not only the food aspect of group you'll benefit from but the group itself, the help you get then.

Go for it I say, you'll not regret it ;)

I agree with both of the above posts, but if you still want to do Green, you can. The Red/Green plans aren't included in the new book, but they are both available as a PDF on the SW website. I have always done Green, and still do (except for the odd day when I only feel like one Hex B so end up doing EE by default!).

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was under the impression from other things I've read online that green was totally done away with now, but I didn't realise the new EE was just the same as the old EE... or is it?

Are there any differences at all between old EE and new EE? If not, maybe I will return and just do EE, but with one extra HEB.. would this work or am I missing something? :)

I do think I need group support, I tend to make excuses in my head without someone to answer to, but in another way, I like the freedom I get from not going to group knowing I can just fall off the wagon for a day and delay the scales for an extra week if I really feel like it. I also struggle with the cost of group and would rather spend that money on food!

Hard to know what to do for the best... but I have to get somewhere with this even if it's slowly. Not in any major rush, would rather it was long lasting, but I do have a half marathon to run this Sept for charity! (What was I thinking??!!)

There are differences in the new EE, but not that many. And some of them are just changes to the terminology, rather than the basic principles.

The people you have spoken to may be confusing it with the EESP plan, which is a short-term quick fix plan which you don't have to do and can safely be ignored until you need it. Even then, it can be done by vegetarians, although it does limit carbohydrates.

But if you have the old books and wanted to continue with the old Green plan, then why not? It won't suddenly stop working just because a new book has come out.

Fortunately I joined SW when Green was still around, and I have only ever followed that plan. Why would a veggie want to follow EE instead of Green? You'd lose a HEA and a HEB!! If I want Ryvitas for lunch for example, I can still have a couple of Alpen Light bars later. I couldn't do that if I followed EE. Well, I could- but I'd have to use some of my syns. Now that I'm maintaining, I still stick with Green every day.

I agree completely, it'll be a cold day in hell before this vegetarian ever does EE or SP lol. EE offers less flexibility and choice of foods and meals than green. :)
