i want to make a chickpea cake but asda was out of baking powder so what would happen if i didnt use it? would it be waste of time and chickpeas?! is there a recipe without baking powder?

I made it without baking powder.
Can't say I was very impressed, so maybe it is worth waiting till you can get it?

in that case i might just wait, what happened? does baking powder just make it rise?

I make do with out...saves a sin.....lol

MMM!!!

I'm a little confused...doesn't take much!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm deffo in the free food being completely free camp.

But I keep hearing things about not being able to use certain free food to make sweet things, chick pea cake being one???

I also understand that polenta has to syned if used to make cakes where as if used to make bread it is free (four seasons cook book)

What's this all about...is it free or not??? Obviously I am looking for a yes it is all free answer!!

lw afaik it isnt syn free hun sorry,

its because its classed as a misuse of free foods i think. Chick peas/cous cous etc are free but are supposed to be part of a filling main meal not as a flour substitute and so if using them as a flour substitute they have to be synned.

Aha, now this is the point I genuinely don't understand. I know this is the explanation that most group leaders will give and I'm not trying to be difficult, but in the SW four seasons they clearly use polenta as flour to make corn chilli bread!!! So that blows the explanation out of the water.

I've tried to find out the difference before, but no one seems to know.

Anyone??

but bread is part of a filling meal, ie a sandwich

LOL, it's that nice, I could snack on it all day!!

Far too tasty to waste on a sandwich. lol

But seriously, it's not really like bread you would make a sandwich with, it's more like a savoury cake...sorry it's very difficult to describe.

I suppose at the end of the day, too many calories, regardless of what plan your on, will hamper any weight loss attempt. I don't know about you, but I am more likely to have a second piece of cake than I am a second sandwich. Sweet things just go down so easily. And that means more calories. If your calorie intake exceeds your calorie expenditure, you're bound to have at best, lesser weight losses than you would if you controlled your intake better. That's how I look at it anyway. I don't feel there is any difference to how many calories polenta contains whether in a cake or a bread. It's just the difference in how we eat them and how much. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me!
