Does anyone have the SW recipe for Chili Con Carne?

It's in the magazine, a couple of issues ago, the first one that introduced the Extra Easy plan (cover has sort of a greenish background I think). There's a chili recipe in there, in the Extra Easy 7-day planner, that I wanted to make tonight. I don't really NEED a recipe, but did want to follow this one so I know I'm sticking to the plan. The trouble is, I loaned my magazine to a friend... and so don't have the recipe. Can anyone help?

    Hiya,

    I make chilli which i think is free on Green days;

    Chopped onion
    peppers
    Quorn
    Mushrooms
    Chopped tinned tomato
    Fresh tomato
    Drained Red kidney beans
    Fresh Red chilli
    Chilli flakes
    Chilli powder

Chop the onion and peppers and cook off with frylight - add the quorn chilli and chilli flakes. Then pop in the mushrooms, tomato ( chopped and fresh) and drained kidney beans. Add the chilli powder to taste.

If it looks a little thick/ chunky i just add more tinned tomatoes.

    Its really yummy!!

I think it is also on the sw website - on the 7 day menu planner or the archive.

I don't have the recipe in the SW magazine here with me, but Sainsbury's have two great recipes (I like the pork one myself) on their recipe section of their website here: Meals with meat - Sainsbury's - Try something new today

As long as you use fry-light and bovril for stock (or count stock-cube), they're free on EE!

Hey there! Don't know if you know of 'Wendy's' chilli (fast food chain in America) but I've got a copycat recipe for their chilli which I make on an EE day. It's yum! Warning - if you use the amount of chilli powder it calls for then it's quite spicy! (1/4 cup = nearly a whole little bottle of chilli powder!)

    Wendy’s Chili

    2 lbs. fresh ground beef
1 qt. (950ml) tomato juice (6.5 syns) (or try tin tomatoes)
1 (29 oz.) can tomato puree (passata)
1 (15 oz.) can red beans, drained (try using 2 beans – pinto and kidney to equal 30 oz beans)
    1 medium onion (1 1/2 c.), chopped
    1/2 C. celery, diced
    1/4 C. green pepper, diced
    1/4 C. chili powder
1 tsp. cumin (if you like real flavor, add more)
    1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. each: black pepper, oregano, sugar
    1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper

    Method
In a frying pan, brown the ground beef; drain. Put the drained beef and the remaining ingredients into a 6-quart pot. Cover the pot; let it simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes.

Oh my goodness... I'd forgotten about Wendy's. Home of the square hamburger. My sister used to work there. It was her first job. Ah, memories...

    Thanks for the recipe too!

Apparently the reason why their chilli is so yummy is because they use the leftover hamburgers and just crumble them up!

Well, it's an efficient use of food I suppose, rather than just wasting it! Good on them!

I did a SW chilli the other day (got the recipe from my group) and it included a pinch of cinnamon which really did bring out all the other flavours and give it a better tasts in general!

I did use cinnamon as it happens. In the end, I tried to remember what was in the recipe from the magazine and surprised myself when I did it exactly right. It has 2tsp ground cumin and 1 tsp cinnamon. It's easy to forget how versatile cinnamon is as a spice, for sweet AND savoury dishes. I use it a lot. Mmmmmmmmmmm....

I always add about 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to my quorn bolognese. It does make it nice!
