Nexplanon/Implanon & weight gain!

Oh dear where do I start :(

In 2012 I was doing really well and went from 14st 7lb to 13st 7lb really quickly by just doing exercise and eating healthily fast forward to 2015 and Im now 16st 7lb (***** how did that happen!!!)

I had the contraceptive implant put in in the middle of 2012 and every since then my weight has just risen...I went to the doctor who said that the implant cannot make you put weight on...so I thought well it must be me so I did a little test..I power walked 5miles everyday for 1 month and ate healthily and I lost nothing, zilch, nada, not one little pound in fact I have carried on putting on weight I hadn't even lost any inches in measurement.

Next Monday I will be implant free I am having it removed I just hope I will lose some weight this is the biggest I have ever been and it is seriously getting me down I feel like I just wobble everywhere.

Has anyone had the same sort of probs on the implant?

P.S I have had no lifestyle change if anything I am more active now then ever and eat roughly the same if not less.

Sorry to hear you've had trouble with the implant!
I've been on the implant for 4 years and I don't think it's affected my weight. I lost 4+ stone when I first got it in but then gained more than that through sheer laziness.
I totally understand how much it gets you down being wobbly, I'm the same. I got told by a doctor that your contraception may make you more hungry than normal but it's you that choose what goes into your mouth! However I think this is for people with super willpower.

Are you accurately weighing your food? This can be a minefield of hidden calories if you are not?

I had it out yesterday (ouch!) so this is my only hope...she said that she had never heard of people putting on weight with the implant!? I do not weigh my food but I do not over eat and probably eat less now then I have ever and work out more. I am going to keep a weight diary and see if there are any changes in weight now I have had it out.

4+ Stone is a great loss it totally went the other way for me once it went in the pounds or should I say stones just piled on and my moods completely changed. I normally lose weight quite easily if I apply myself but since I had this it just wont shift and im the heaviest I have ever been....fingers, toes and legs crossed this works!! Will let you know how it goes :sigh:

Hi Lottie,

I am on my second implant which was inserted at the same time as the first one was removed. I do think it is one of the known side-effects that it can cause weight-gain. For me personally however I don't think it has affected my weight. I have been able to lose roughly 4-5 stone whilst on the first one, sadly re-gained it though due to own fault.

Will be peeling back the pounds from tomorrow onwards though :)

Regardless of my own experience I do wish you the best of luck and hope that removing the implant enables you to start to lose the weight you want to.

Hi Princessjen :)

I've had it out about a week ago my moods are certainly better not sure if ive lost any weight yet im going to give it a month and then weigh myself and see im hoping with sensible eating and exercise the weight will come off a bit more easily than when I was on the implant..as it wouldn't budge at all. Good luck with your weight gain and I love your signature x

Well ladies I have already lost 5lb since having the implant out so things are going in the right direction finally yippee hope it last :)

Congratulations on the weight loss lottie! :D

Thanks ladies...im hoping it will continue. I feel great since having the implant out less tires and back to my old happy self..i guess I was just unlucky with the implant x
