Alcohol

This is weird n you'll probably all laugh at me but does anyone else find that certain types of alcohol doesn't effect their weight loss? I can drink wine til it comes out of my ears but as soon as I have lager or beer I see an increase in weight? Ive even noticed my weight loss speeding up when I've had a week with a lot of wine?

Thoughts? (and no I've not drunk any wine before I've typed this lol)

No but im rather jealous as im missing my favourite wine a lot since starting SW! ;)

I haven't drank in 17 days...not that I'm counting
I'm saving for a a festival in March (God help me that will be off the wagon :sign0007:) so I declared Feb my alcohol less month, and have focused solely on SW-ness. I figure 3 days of utter sin should be redeemable, in like a week or so?

I find I lose weight if I have had a glass of wine the night before but I haven't put it to the test by drinking the whole bottle (yet):party0036: maybe after weigh in on Monday :)

Unfortunately, I have not seen my weight loss speed up by drinking lots of wine :(

You will *appear* to have lost weight the next morning because you'll be dehydrated, alcohol is a strong diuretic (it makes you pee). But as soon as you replenish the water by drinking plenty over the next day or so your weight will go back up again.

I lose an average of 3lb on a Sunday morning after a Saturday night wine sesh, but it will all go back again by Monday. :sigh:

Oh my god you're right - I never noticed this before because I so rarely weight myself, but I had a bottle of wine last night and seem to have magically lost 4lbs!

This makes sense, never thought of that before! Thanks for the advise ermintrude x

Beer will definitely make you gain weight its pretty much liquid bread full of carbs

*Any* calories will "make you gain weight" *IF* you consume more than you use up - your body couldn't care less whether they're from wine, beer, cheese, chocolate or vegetables, it cant know the difference. Obviously theyre 'empty' calories in not containing anything else for your body that's good for it, but they dont in themselves "definitely make you gain weight".

But you will still *appear* to have lost weight the next morning after drinking quite a bit as they are a diuretic, as I said above. Once you've rehydrated with plenty of fluids that 'weight' will come back.

Also your sig contains a link to an external weight loss site - I expect a mod will be along soon to remove it.

Awww I wish drinking lots of wine would help me lose weight!! :( x

I have a Thai friend at work where her diet consists highly of rice, she started dieting and then said to me she'd had a few bottles of vintage cider over the weekend, I told her she would better off with a bowl of rice in terms of calories lol!

Scary how alcohol can affect you further on in the week, ie sweet cravings, where your bodies craving the sugar you been consuming whilst drinking alcohol and we don't even realise . X

Your matabalism has to work harder to burn alcohol

No, it really doesn't. Alcohol is the easiest thing to absorb. Pure sugar.
