Syns in harissa paste?? Little book of soups recipe..

Hi, wondering if anyone can help.

I made the Moroccan chickpea soup from the little book of soups today. The book says its free on EE and green but it includes 2 tbsp of harissa paste. The soup seemed to have a slight film of oil (that was from the paste). Wondering whether it is actually syn free or should I syn the paste which is 1/2 syn per tsp??

Hmmm, not sure here! You're right, all harissa paste is synned at 1/2 syn per tsp so not sure why the recipe would be free? The only thing I can think is it depends on how many servings the recipe makes. There are 3 tsps in a tbsp so if the recipe calls for 2 tbsps, then that would be 2 x 3 = 6 tsps = 3 syns in the whole batch. If you eat less than 1/6 of the batch per serving, then the syn value would be less that 1/2 syn per serving and therefore free. Hope that makes sense!

Yes it does! Thanks for replying. I was thinking that myself but the recipe says serves 4! I got more than 4 servings out of it but counted some syns to be on the safe side
