    Question Aldi - Shopping Thread

    Hi All,

I have done many searches, but each time it has come up with 'bits and bobs' responses to my query!

I am looking for a thread that shows the best things to buy in a particular supermarket - Aldi in this instance.

I am planning on going to Aldi tonight - and wanted a list of the best SW stuff from their ranges. So, if you go to Aldi shopping - can you add a reply to this thread with what you buy for SW, and the syns! I clearly know the syns in fresh stuff, but its more the branded things - like cereals, prepacked meat, frozen stuff, yoghurts and so on.

This would be a huge help as its my first time shopping there - i usually go to Tesco.

Thanks very much in advance xx

I buy their own flavoured couscous which is about 2.5 syns, depends on the flavour & I can't remember of hand at the mo. I also buy their own 1 minute noodles which are about 19p they are also about 2.5syns depending on the flavour.

Some yogurts are low syned, but not too sure which ones I can't quite remember, do you have the SW app on your mobile?

If you have a dishwasher their dishwasher tablets are 3.99 for 40 & last year won Which dishwasher tablet award thingy!!!

Sometimes I buy frozen fruit there but it is slightly dearer than Sainsbury's but still cheaper than other supermarkets.

Their own weetabix are ok as are their own bran flakes.

That's all I can think off at the mo

Their cupshotz I believe are free and also some thai fishcakes in the freezer section. I believe most of their meats etc are free without fats of course I love some of their hams etc.

I think the lamb shanks in the freezer are low syns too

I buy their washing powder tablets and am happy with them also buy their dishwasher tablets sometimes too.

Somebody posted about them doing syn free smoked mackerel but am not 100% about this.

Obviously check anything online as I am not an online member so can't do so now so might be a bit out of date!

    Hi Ellebear,

Great idea for a thread! I know there is a 'where the bargains are' sticky but it's a lot to plough through. Perhaps we need one of these for each supermarket?

To get back to the topic, I'm afraid I can't help as I don't have an Aldi near me

Their super 6 is brilliant - all of their fruit and veg seems to be cheaper than other supermarkets to me. I am planning a trip tomorrow evening to pick up some bits.

What always strikes me is that they don't seem to have any low fat cheese?! Anyone spotted any?

Also would love to know if the yoghurts are free - muller can be expensive if they arent on offer.
    - and also their passata. I know some passata's have oil in them so would love to know if this is free as I use it a lot.

The Harvest cereal bars that you can have for a hexb (70 cal ones) are actually really tasty so those are well worth a try!

I was looking out for the mackerel the other day on minimins for a friend and as far as i can remember - Asda is the best syn wise if its the smoked you are after. I think Aldo is 1.5 syns per 100g - but fresh and canned are free?!

the chicken breasts wrapped in bacon with cheese are 1syn per breast. I like these for taking to work as you can just shove them in the oven and add some veg. The lady who wanted to know about the passata whats the brand name I will look it up for you. However I was under the impression that passata is just sieved tomatoes and they are free. I had heard some tomato puree has oil in it xx

The syns for some of the rices etc are per 100g so that might work out a bit more per serving etc not sure x
