Extra Easy: Sushi?

If you made it yourself and it was just raw fish and rice, yes.
But usually they add something called 'mirin' I think to make the rice stick together. This and the extras like avocado and so on mean that overall fish sushi is 2 syns per 100g.

That's right, you wouldn't think it but the sushi rice vinegar mix contains a fair bit of sugar. I've not tried it but apparently you can make your own with sweetener and it works fine. Wasabi is also synned but I've never been given a convincing explanation as to why...

I make my own sushi and never use rice vinegar (or sweetener). I'm veggie, so make it with Quorn slices or cooked original sausages sliced into quarters along their length. Add peppers, cucumber. Dunk in soy sauce and wasabi (which I don't bother counting syns - you need so little). Yum!

Looking at the ingredient lists for wasabi paste on Tesco.com, they seem to be made with some oil, but I would agree that it isn't something of which you are going to have great big spoonsful (unless you have a stronger constitution than mine!) so it probably won't make that much difference, syn-wise.

I sometimes have the sushi from Pret when I am in town and can't get home for lunch. Quick and easy and very nice indeed and not too bad for syns (better than anything else in Pret, anyway!).

When I worked in London I occasionally went to one of those restaurants where the sushi came round on little plates on a conveyor belt and you just grabbed what you fancied as it went by, then took the empty plates to the cash desk so they could work out how much you had eaten. It was great - but easy to eat FAR too much!!

The Boots 'Shapers' Sushi is generally very low is syns. A couple of the packs are around 1 syn. It's what a generally grab if eating when out and about.
