Help with syns

I bought a ham pickle lettuce & mayonnaise sandwich earlier from local coop on wholemeal bread.

I couldn't find it in the slimming world syn list web app, so I calculated manually... I didn't see it as free food so I selected not free food & it came back as 21 syns.

Am I calculating it wrong I thought this was a bit much for a sandwich.

Also I did same other week with a Sainsburys pasta which calculated as 32syns (I never calculated as free) but when I counted it as free food it came back as 6 syns (I think)

I think they need to put in a barcode scanner like my fitness pal does.

I find shop bought sandwiches to be ridiculously high in calories, which explains the high syn value as it would probably use the 20 calories = 1 syn rule if you didn't select any free allowance. I'm not sure if you can claim free allowances on this, probably only for the lettuce which wouldn't add many calories.

21 syns sounds like it could be about right, as the bread would be at least 12 syns and mayo (I'm assuming it wasn't reduced fat) is 5 syns per tbsp. Since it was wholemeal bread, you might be able to deduct 6 for your HEB allowance if you haven't already used it.

Ah ok it's probably right then. I didn't know you could work it out just on calories alone, I always spend ages typing everything in. That's good so I divide anything I eat (& don't know) by 20 and that should give me a rough syn value. Good to know thanks for this.

Yes that would be right as there is no free food allowance on shop bought sandwiches so everything down to the ham and lettuce is synned in full. If it really was wholemeal bread, ost are just malted bread, you can take off 6 syns if using it as your HEB though x

The 20 calories to 1 syn rule won't work with anything that gets a free food allowance though. There is a list on things that don't get an allowance on the sw website
