    sainsburys frozen finely chopped vegtables

I use these finely chopped veg to make bolognase, shepherds pie and my own soup and pot noodle type soup. I've always assumed these were free foods as the ingredients are listed as 34% carrot 33% onion and 33% celery. I've just noticed that the nutritional info states that its 5.8%fat how can that be when there is no added fat? Can anyone shed any light and also should I syn these?
    Other info- 80calories per 100 g
    Thank you

Well the plot thickens!! Its actually 6.4% fat (showing as medium on that wheel thing not even low!). I've rang Sainsburys and the lady in Customer Care couldnt help but is as bemused as me so is passing the query over to the technolgy dept (or something!) and she'll ring me back as soon as she knows

    Its very strange indeed

Thanks for looking into this - it is indeed odd.
However, I have been using this product since I began my journey 7 weeks ago and have lost 7lbs so far (2lb holiday gain which had nothing to do with this product - it was the cornish cream teas that got me!) so, eating this product has not been detrimental to my weight loss. I havent syned them and will continue to have them as a free food but I would be so interested to see what sainsburys have to say.
    xx

So the nutritional information on the packet is based on ingredients which you might or might not add and aren't even in the packet in the first place?

Is that even legal? It is certainly very misleading!

... and they're shooting themselves in the foot, putting off those customers who wouldn't want the fat!

What a load of crap!!!! You might just boil and have as a plate of veg? You may just add to a veg soup with no fat!!!!

Right - as they havent rang me back I'm going to contact them online too - see what answer I get!

Have had a look at my packet and it does say its the nutritional value when cooked as instructed (with a small amount of oil - how much do they define as "small"?!)

I still think its a really silly thing to do

Someone might cook them in a packet of Lurpack - that'd be more than 6.4% fat!!

I've never seen packaging like this before but then again I've probably not really looked. I just check the ingredients and if its all veg and nothing else I use as free. Though if I'd looked at the wheel thing first I would have seen the fat percentage and not bothered looking at ingredients and just put it back on the shelf. Think they could lose customers this way

Well they've just rang me back and I got the same answer as you. The woman in Customer Care agreed that it was ridiculous packaging it like that with the nutritional information.

But at least we can all relax now and carry on using as a free food

Tesco Finest do frozen chargrilled peppers with nothing added either. Great to keep in - I love roast peppers and these are so handy

Nice one Jen and cavegirl. I must admit I have been buying this product for a couple of months but it was only at the weekend I noticed the wheel. As I cook them without fat I will use them as free food. TBH having worked at Sainsburys in the past this doesn't surprise me really.
