Thumbs up Minimins Water Challenge!

Have you ever noticed the people who do well on VLCDs are the one’s who embrace the whole philosophy that water is their best friend?

I know from experience that the first thing to start to slide is your water intake – you start off with great fervour, constantly knocking back the H20, keeping track of all those litres of clear elixir hitting your body. Then you get into the swing of things, and slowly but surely water is something you know you should be drinking, but that diet coke looks so nice, or it’s too cold, or even you just can’t be bothered!!

Well without water, your weight losses will slow down. In fact, for some people they will just plain stall. Your body needs the minimum of 2 litres of water on top of your shakes to work efficiently, to burn that fat we all want to lose, to get this over with as soon as possible!!

So I hereby start the Minimins Water Challenge!! How much water do you want to aim for? Do you want to drink a certain amount by a certain time, or are you going for a cumulative amount at the end of the day?

Join in – newbies, oldies, restarters – let’s get that water down, and send those lbs down the pan!!

Diet: cal counting
Just a quick question - do you think this water thing applies to all dieting or just to VLCD? I am a lazy girl about the H2O and know I don't drink 2 litres a day. I am cal counting. Would it help to drink more?

Diet: Maintaining
Water is key to any diet program.

If you are not drinking enough water than the liver only runs at 70% capacity when metabolising as it is having to help out your kidneys.

Hence if you are glugging the water then your kidneys are working properly and your liver can get on with converting fat and hence you getting skinny.

My advice on drinking water is this.

A) You aren't drinking it because you are thirsty, you aren't drinking it because you like the taste, you are drinking it because it makes you slimmer quickly and that is what we all want.

B) It is the only free bit of the diet! And it is the only edge you can give yourself. The difference between a big drinker and a little drinker can be pounds in a week (IMO).

C) If I gave you 4 litres of liquid in a bottle and said it attacked fat then you would drink it, don't think just because it is plain old water that somehow it doesn't matter.

D) Don't drink the water cold, you can't drink it in volume, room temperature is better.

E) Don't drink out of a bottle unless you are out and about, fill up a 2 litres mineral water bottle and pour this into a large hiball tumbler and keep refilling it.

F) Start early and finish early. Drink 500mls every 90 minutes between 8am and 8pm and you are doing perfect. That way you are getting your 4 litres without feeling like you are drowning, it only really becomes a problem if you sit down at 7pm on the sofa with 4 litres to get down and then start gagging and generally struggling.

G) Don't drink late into the evening as you will be up all night peeing and also get leg cramps in bed.

H) DRINKING LOADS OF WATER MAKES YOU SLIMMER QUICKER (MANTRA ALERT)

I) Water is a way of life, I finished the mad diet 7 months ago now and I still drink 4 litres of water every day as it helps maintain weight as well as lose it.

J) If you are doing the diet right then the mouse is now in your right hand and a glass of water is in the left ??? (NOW BE HONEST!)

I always drink at least my 2.5 litre minimum but I aim for 3 litres and can usually manage that. Just.

I'm in awe of people who can sink 4 litres or more (I think I've managed that amount just twice) but I'll try my darndest to increase my intake whenever I can.

Just lately, my 'taste' in water seems to have changed. I always drank still water usually flavoured with Summer Berry but over the past week or so, I've switched to plain carbonated. Usually, I can't stand carbonated ... except for the last time I was pregnant and for some reason drank gallons of it every day (incidentally, in that pregnancy I only gained 18lb and 7lb 9oz of that was baby ).

Do you think the fact I'm drinking all carbonated will have a negative effect? I'm inclined to think that water is water and the fact they've added bubbles won't make a difference but does anyone have any facts to the contrary?

Diet: Lighter Life
I'm up for the challenge, I have struggled with water this week, because I have been in so many blessed meetings and have been incredibly distracted by all the cr*p that is going on at the moment and know I have had a poor loss this week in comparison to the weeks I have done well with the water.

I want to be able to regularly drink 5 litres a day - I like to boil the kettle and then drink the cooling water with flavourings, I find it goes down easier and keeps me warmer as I am so damn cold on this diet.

My kettle takes 1.6 litres and I try to drink a minimum of four kettle fulls a day - the split being 1 and a 1/2 kettles full by 12ish (I'm not a great morning person and struggle doing anything in the morning never mind remembering to drink), another kettle full before I leave the office (either 3 or 4 o'clock depending on whether I get to pick the kids up) and then a kettle full or two when I get home to when I go to bed!

I need to keep reminding myself to get up off my backside and keep filling up. The others in the office complain if I keep the kettle on my desk!

Also PLEASE can this be moved to the VLCD section as I think it applies to all of us, not just those on Cambridge.

Had 1 1/2 litres so far aiming for another 1 1/2 by tea time and then another 1/2 - 1 between tea time and bed time.

I'm deffinately up for the water challenge... when I was SSing before I usually drank between 4 - 6 litres a day... I do seem to have slipped a little recently and have only been managing around 2 litres a day!!!!!!...I do drink loads of coffee however but I know this doesn't count!!!!! starting today I will up this back to at least 4 litres

Good luck everyone.... lets get glugging!!!!

i have always drunk 6 litres a day, i start at 5.00am with two litres and try to finish those before 7.00am. then i have my shake. and then gather my next two litres to drink between 7.30am and twelve noon.then another shake and then i have all afternoon plus evening to drink the last two litres.but when schools start back on tuesday.im gonna be stuck.because from 7until 9am will be stuck in amini-bus with 7 14 year olds and no toilets available on route so i shall have to change my water plans around

Diet: Slimming World
I manage to get 4 litres down
I have half a litre when I get up before my first shake. Drink another half a litre through the morning. Another half before my lunchtime bar and another half through the afternoon.
I get home between 5/6 pm and then try to consume 2 lites of sparkling water through the evening.
Always find the weekends harder as my routines gone.
