    Starting a VLCD when unwell?

I have started CD today, but have been unwell for a few days (cold like symptoms with high temp etc) and am not sure if this was a good time to start?

    Any advice appreciated!!

I think its probably a good time to start. 1. The meal replacements will be nutricious, and have all the vitamins you need.
    2. If you are unwell, you are going to be off food a bit anyway, so will help get you started on the cut down without suffering too much in the way of hunger
    3. Dont let ANYTHING stop you from getting started on your diet!

Good luck with it and hope you feel better soon!

From memory of things I have read, I believe you are more likely to lose a greater proportion of lean muscle on a weight-loss diet when ill. But that is a normal part of the body's adaptation and is not dangerous. It's like that so that you can safely go off your food when unwell and still keep your engine running.

I know people fret about losing muscle, but you can put it back on by eating more and resistance exercising after you get to your right weight.

I just started Cambridge VLCD after a short break from Lighterlife - I also had a cold when starting - just over a week ago. I'm feeling fine and when I had a cold on Lighterlife I was ok too.

As mentioned above, there is a good selection of nutrients in the packs, so it's probably good for you during a cold as you are getting a full compliment of nutrients - I know my regular diet was never so nutritionally balanced!

The only thing is that I'm craving chocolate - so I bought lots of chocolate tetra's this week and I'm having a bar every day and those have choc on.

I know when I have a cold I like to comfort eat a bit - so that's the only thing I'm missing, but it cheers me up to know how much weight I'm loosing!

Hope you feel better soon! x
